boot problem on new RPI B+ v1.2

I have been using RPI B+ v1.2 hardware for a while and copying the image between RPI's without problems, but recently I bought a bunch of new RPI B+ v1.2, and the image doesn't run on those (green light just stays on) .
The only hardware difference I can see between both is the memory, which is samsung for the old and ELPIDA for the new.
I tried the update, upgrade and NOOBS-lite overwrite method that is described above, but then the card doesn't work any more on both versions (green LED flashes once then no more activity).

I would like to avoid starting from scratch again, because I changed a lot of the configuration, and I would have to look up all those settings again.

Is there a way to make the old image run on the 'ELPIDA' version of the RPI B+ v1.2?
