Dom - I'm running overclocked at 1350 and force_turbo and it still runs a good couple of degrees cooler. Nice! I probably still need to tweak some things though.

The original reason for making it a module ("bloat" or lack of memory on Pi 1) certainly doesn't exist at least on Pi 2/3. The 'sit' device probably is better off as a module, though.

If you need it (but I wonder why), the proper way to disable IPv6 is to pass "ipv6.disable=1" to the kernel on the kernel commandline. That will disable all IPv6 functionality even with IPv6 built in.

Hi, I get dead Raspberry B (Raspbian Jessie) after 4.1 -> 4.4 update.
Only one red led lights and nice rainbow colors in screen, no any boot messages at all.
Luckilly I have fresh backup image of SD-card, so no any harm to get it back to work with old and good 4.1.

Can't debug more cause of it won't boot at all.

Can you post your config.txt? Settings like "dtoverlay=" will stop 4.4 kernel from booting (which only supports device tree).

Can you post your config.txt? Settings like "dtoverlay=" will stop 4.4 kernel from booting (which only supports device tree).

edit: but no sound = going back to 4.1
Seems like this update is too huge to handle for nomal user, but thanks anyway. ;)

Hi all.

I have just upgraded the kernel on 2 Pi's, 2 B and 3 B using rpi-update.
After update I have sound but moc (music on console player) wasn't able to pause and go.
Shutdown the system in red display this:

[FAILED] Failed to start Store Sound Card State.
See 'systemctl status alsa-restore.service' for details

Run systemctl -l status alsa-store.service
and sudo journalctl -xn

Thanks a lot.

I update rpi and the [FAILED] goes away.

...but

if I play music on ncurses mp3 player moc (music on console) (mocp command)
when I pause the music, moc freeze.

I have to run taskmanager to kill the process mocp. And begin again.
When I reboot, the console stops 30s on
[...] stopped dhcpcd on all interfaces
and then reboots.

Other ncurses player as CMus or mp3blaster haven't this problem.

only moc aggg!!!

Just wanted to mention that the 4.4 kernel also supports the broadcom auxiliary SPI hardware too. SPI1 is available to 40pin header rPis on GPIO 16-21 and SPI2 is available to the compute module on GPIO 40-45.

Also unlike SPI0 the amount and GPIO # of the CS lines are configurable. Check the /boot/overlays/README for details.

After successfully updating to 4.4.8 on a raspberry pi 2 running Raspbian Jessie (latest release), I had issues that escalated quickly:
LXpanel was crash-looping in xterm and wifi dungle (set as a host) was not broadcasting (ifconfig was still showing it though).
After that I rebooted in terminal mode (by changing raspi-config), ssh was down but was able to restart it.
After that whole OS failed to boot properly stopping at nonblocking pool is initialized..
I can still boot but not much is working, I have no host name, it display (none) and I can't run ifconfig (gives an error).

Deactivating device tree is not an option with this kernel.
You will have to activate it to use the RPF kernel / firmware v4.4+

From that log you can tell that Device Tree is enabled (Machine model is a nice string for starters) - I'd say you're probably long past the point where DT would be the likely culprit.

So it looks like your filing system started out in need of a repair, was mounted read-only, then subsequently remounted read-only even though the message said it should be writeable.

What happened to your card? Did rpi-update appear to complete without errors? Do you reboot cleanly or just power off?

dukla2000 - what is the longest uptime you have had with it? Reason I'm asking is I think there is a problem with the Broadcom wi-fi driver that eats ram at an alarming rate and I can't reproduce the problem with an external (ralink chipset) wi-fi dongle. The result of leaving it running, without X nothing else up except a couple of active VT's was every time I walked by it and checked another BIG chunk of ram was "missing" ie no process was "claiming" it, (ps alx) but free was showing less and less free memory that wasn't accounted for by cache or buffers. Pfhht - just gone. It takes a little over 12-16 hours to exhaust all of ram before the dreaded OOM-killer strikes and then all kinds of bad things can happen. Has anyone else seen this with 4.4.8-v7+ #880 SMP Fri Apr 22 21:55:04 BST 2016 armv7l GNU/Linux?

Currently been running 40 hours, in theory it runs 24/7 but one way and another have had reboots every couple of days while getting things the way I like (hard and software). Last reboot was sorting a UK to US keyboard did think about just restarting X but didn't.

Nothing abnormal looking there... I'll try testing it some more and see if it can be reproduced in a controlled environment (fresh jessie install etc.)
