Yeird, has anyone tried saving power

Tue Jul 24, 2012 10:33 pm

Hi

I am building an embedded product and for the prototype/initial production phases want to use the Raspi. Has anyone here got any advice on how to reduce power consumption, e.g. slowing clocks , reducing voltages whatever ?

Many thanks
Steve

There is a study of RasPi heat profiles by "Remy" at http://www.geektopia.es/es/technology/2 ... iento.html (Is the Raspberry Pi computer getting hot? A study of its operational temperature.) The Spanish article has numerous color temperature images of RasPi in various operational modes, which gives a good picture of what parts are using the most power.

Replacing 3.3V linear regulator RG2 with a switching regulator should help a lot, as will bypassing polyfuse F3 (a little). The LAN9512 generates the most heat, so if you don't need USB or Ethernet you might be able to get it into a low-power mode or use a Model A when it becomes available.
