Adding an audio output to RPi 400?

Sat Jun 12, 2021 2:00 pm

I've recently purchased a RPi 400, and sadly have no HDMI devices that can play audio. I'm also having a terrible time getting Bluetooth sound to work at all. So I was wondering if someone with decent soldering skills might be able to add the audio output connection that's missing on the 400 vs the 4 and previous models. I've no idea if additional hardware would be needed or perhaps it's just a matter of soldering the jack socket to a not connected test point.

Has anyone done any research on this?

Guess I'll have to... it'd still be nice to know if it's possible to add a jack socket to the 400 :)

Only via the GPIO, like one does for a RPI Zero, which you must of missed on you forum search:

Using a cheap USB audio sound card as an output device works well, and many now have a built-in volume control. The output level is adequate for headphone use. Yes it uses a precious USB port, but worth the effort to get clean sound.
