How to reset Bluetooth (devices not pairing or connecting)

Mon Apr 26, 2021 10:58 am

Hi - my Pi4 is running Raspbian Buster and the Bluetooth is next to useless. When pairing it can see devices, but it fails to pair with them. It says "Pairing request sent to device - waiting for response" and after a short while it says "Pairing failed - Timeout was reached". A keyboard that was once paired some time ago no longer connects either. If I search for installed packages with "blue" in the name I get

dpkg --get-selections | grep blue

bluealsa deinstall
blueman deinstall
bluetooth install
bluez install
bluez-firmware install
bluez-obexd install
lxplug-bluetooth install
pi-bluetooth install
pulseaudio-module-bluetooth install

Any ideas? Would like Bluetooth to start from scratch if possible..

Raspberry Pi Operating System since December 2020 has ditched BlueAlsa and has had many other *tweeks*.

Therefore did you fully update RaspiOS before trying to manually re-construct Bluetooth which should work by default ??

Honestly I am not sure what has been done. The Pi is largely left alone as s music streamer. Every so often I do sudo apt update, sudo apt full-upgrade. I did mess around with the BT a few months ago trying to get it to work, can't remember what I did. Hence I'd like to just reset (as close as possible) everything to do with Bluetooth and start from scratch ..

Anyone? How can I completely reset Bluetooth on my Pi4 to get it working again?

Anyone? Or is there another forum where I can get this answered?

There are many forums on the internet, but every one is reliant on community volunteers to answer questions, so pot luck if someone recognises your issues.

Grab a spare SD Card and undertake fresh install of Raspberry Pi Operating System, either ARMHF or ARM64 Beta, for me Bluetooth just works with Keyboard and Speaker in both....

I also suffered from a bluetooth system that refused to pair or connect and spent a lot of time trying the various published 'solutions' none of which worked until I found : https://raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/q ... 914#123914.
Implementing the changes outlined fixed my problem and bluetooth now works correctly.

No guarantee that it will work for you but it is worth a try and only takes a few moments to apply.

Good luck,

John

Thanks very much, but unfortunately this hasn't worked. I really need to completely reset Bluetooth, and I don't want to do a full Raspbian install as everything else works 100% perfectly.
