Overclock SD card.....question!

Fri Nov 09, 2018 8:37 am

Hi,
i want to overclock my SD card on my Rasoberry pi3 but i have a doubt: in the past i did it by editing the /boot/config.txt file and insert a line like this:

Code: Select all

dtparam=sd_overclock=100
and then reboot the Raspberry.
Now i read in some articles that i can do this by adding a line in thsi way:

Code: Select all

dtoverlay=sdhost,overclock_50=100
and then reboot the Raspberry.
Which is the right way?
Can someone help me?

Thanks

both are correct, the first is the prefered and method the Tech people came up with.
there is also a third method using sdtweak

the First method you use, doesn't break anything else though. (WiFi is one thing it would disable)

edit and you should be able to check if it worked and at what speed it is using with
sudo cat /sys/kernel/debug/mmc0/ios

Yes (and no.)
Yes as it the safest method they eventually made.
(No because it may not work, e.g. not boot, corrupt data if not quite working etc
You can use other numbers too if it doesn't work say 83 as the next step down from 100.)

It works for me though.

yes, that's the sdtweak one, it replace the sdhost so not to take out the WiFi in the Pi3. But was replaced with the dtparam version.

I have no idea if they (dtparam version and sdtweak)are doing the same thing, it'll be hidden in a post or github somewhere.
