What are the eMMC in RPI 3B for ?

Mon Jun 18, 2018 7:44 pm

Can we use it to install os without an SD card? All the answers I found were for CM3, but I am looking for an answer specific to raspberry pi 3 b model with fixed CM3. If I can't use it to store any day/not intended to store any data, what is its role in this raspberry pi 3b development board (with 40 GPIO pins) ?

The Raspberry Pi model 3 contains no eMMC module. It boots from off-the-shelf SD cards
by default.

There are two generations of Compute module. The first generation uses Raspberry Pi 1 technology, the second generation uses Raspberry Pi 3 technology.

• Don't like the board ? Missing features ? Change to the prosilver theme ! You can find it in your settings.
• Don't like to search the forum BEFORE posting 'cos it's useless ? Try googling : yoursearchtermshere site:raspberrypi.org
