ADS-B transmitter

Fri Apr 15, 2016 8:43 pm

Being a pilot we are currently looking for a portable system to transmit flight details so that we show up on radar.
You may have seen aircraft tracking on websites like flightradar24.com

They work on 1090MHz and transmit various details like altitude, gps, speed, direction.

There are already standalone units on the market that are the size of a car stereo but they are no good for say someone that foot launches a paramotor as they are too heavy and bulky.

Perhaps something using a pi could be created???

Bit of a project for the clued up who want to work on something that is needed in the flying world.

That is a link to a newspaper where the CAA want a small package for microlight aircraft to use.

Let me know your thoughts

Hi,

I'm currently contracting at NATS and I'm looking into this as a bit of a weekend skunkworks projects. Small, inexpensive, and lightweight are the requirements here, as it could be something to put onto drones too, allowing for them to work close to controlled airspace (emergency services, etc).

I'll let you know what progress we make on it.

Cheers
Dan
