Swicht to wifi if ethernet is disconnected

Sun Aug 13, 2017 9:01 am

Hi All,

I am wondering if there is a way to switch on the wifi adapter of my Raspberry Pi 3 if the Ethernet cable would get disconnected and visa versa (both using the same fixed IP address).

I already found some solutions using "ifplugd", but all came with some sort of unstable behaviour. I there an other method, or does somebody have a good implementation example of ifplugd?

Thnx in advance and regards.

I have posted about the use of a bonded device in active-backup mode with eth and wlan.
IIRC it was working even in DHCP mode. Setup was fiddly, but the end result was fine: system booting with or without interface plugged in, reliable switch between links.
The recipe does use ifplugd. I don't know how you can get the "ethernet plugged" event in userland without it.
