kali linux on USB

Mon Jun 19, 2017 7:46 pm

I have been struggling try to create a bootable USB device containing kali linux. Is it even possible to do this? can one create a bootable USB device for a pi 3 using kali linux. I have created bootable usb devices many times for the raspian image and they work. but when I follow the directions for doing the same on the kali site the resulting usb device never boots. If anyone one this forum has done so can you please give me some insight on how to do it?

Thanks, in advance,

I've been struggling with this too, with no success so far. I'm sure there is a way, but my Linux skills are not yet up to figuring it out. If someone finds a way, even some time in the future, please post it.

Get Raspbian booting from USB. Then you'll know the OTP bits, etc all works.

Then boot from your Kali SDCard, trash the root filesystem (/dev/sda2) on your USB device and replace it with a clone of the rootfs from Kali. Replace the config.txt and kernel*.img files on the USB stick /boot (/dev/sda1) with the ones from the /boot partition on your Kali Linux. Fix up /etc/fstab if needed.
