Webcam to capture videos on Raspberry Pi

Sat Feb 07, 2015 4:31 pm

Hi everyone,

I have installed OpenCV on my raspberry pi and am trying to capture videos using my Logitech C170 USB webcam.

I have installed:
1) guvcview
2) fswebcam
3) motion
The command "fswebcam -r 640x480 -S 10 -d /dev/video0 webcam2.png" is working correctly and is capturing images from my webcam.

However, I am not able to use guvcview because the image appears blank. Here is a screenshot of how it looks to me when i open guvcview-

The guvcview screen looks like this-

The guvciew blank screen

What packages do I need to install to make this work ?

How else can I capture videos with ease in Raspberry Pi using my logitech camera ? If you would like to know other details then please let me know. I shall post it here.

Thank you !

Which version of kernel do you have?

Code: Select all

$ uname -a

This is the output of "uname -a"-

Linux raspberrypi 3.18.5+ #748 PREEMPT Wed Feb 4 21:24:41 GMT 2015 armv6l GNU/Linux

You can install qv4l2 instead of guvcview, because it is not working with kernel 3.18 (3.16+) due to a bug in guvcview. There shouldn't be a problem with motion if you use YUYV mode (or other mode than MJPG). Another program is mjpg_streamer that works either in MJPG mode or YUYV mode, however you need to apply a patch for MJPG mode with kernel 3.18 as mentioned http://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewt ... 28&t=97983.
