B+: "usb 1-1-port2: over-current change"

Hi all,

recently I got my first Raspi B+. I wrapped it into a case, installed Raspbian to a MicroSD, plugged in HDMI and an Apple keyboard, then booted. Everything worked like a charm - I followed the initial instructions (resized partition), rebooted and logged in via SSH. But around 10 minutes later, when running "dmesg", I noticed hundrets of log messages:

The red LED was blinking (I've used only a 1.2A power supply, obviously not enough). When booting with 2A power supply, red LED doesn't blink but these messages remain. The USB ports don't work, but Ethernet does.

So - what went wrong here? I haven't touched the Pi between the reboots, it seems that USB has died within the first 10 minutes or so?

Of course I upgraded Raspbian (aptitude update/upgrade) as well as the firmware (rpi-update), tried other power supplies and even booted without anything attached but power (no USB devices, no ethernet). But even then, the "over-current" messages appear in the syslog. I switched back to an 1.2A power supply without any devices attached - and still get "over-current".

[*] Is there anything I can test?
[*] Did I break my Pi? If yes, how/why? Or is this unlikely and I just got a broken board?

Seems the same problem.

So I also tested the voltage (as described in http://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewt ... 05#p628505) and can confirm the same results:
(always against PP3=GND)
PP1: 5.03V
PP7 (Poly-Fuse): 5.0V
PP8: 3.3V
PP9: 1.81V
PP10: 1.81V (should this be 3.3V? Can anyone else test this on a B+ please?)
PP27: around 0.15V

All tests done without any USB devices and without Ethernet (2A power, HDMI, MicroSD, booted to up-to-date Raspbian)

I also got the same issue. And I'm also experiencing low voltage on PP27 (0.5 to 0.15V). Was it supposed to be 5V?

I'm having this issue on rpi 2 model B.

Hello,

Really disappointing, I have same problem:

I did return to amazon my first RPI2 because SD card slot died after 6 insertion !
I probably never tested the USB port of the new board this time.

But now I need it :
I have also the message "usb 1-1-port2: over-current change"

I tried the fix given in the link == upgraded the linux then tested with a 2amp supply
but still the same.
Not even a usb dongle work

If it's a B+ or 2B then add

max_usb_current=1

to /boot/config.txt and see if that makes things better. On an RPi3B it's already set. The 3B needs a 2.5A supply.

but no change after boot .
