Broke capacitor C2 on model A

Thu Jan 22, 2015 8:18 pm

Hi,
Had a bit of a catastrophe in school today with my model A.
Capacitor C2 got caught and one pad was broken . It looked repairable, but somehow in between leaving school and getting home it has come off and I have lost it!

I have searched on the web and found the schematic, it looks like C2 is a 1N0 capacitor, but what type ? I know there are polyester, electrolytic capacitors, does anyone know the part number for C2?

Cheers
Steve

There is a similar query here from nearly 3 years ago. I'm sure there have been others in the meantime...

Are you sure it's not C6? C2 is a very very tiny capacitor... hard to see. C6 is large about the diameter of a fat pencil. Most of the time it is C6 that gets broken off of A or B RPi as it is often used as leverage when inserting or removing the power connector. There are several threads here about that. Search [C6 raspberry pi] with Google. The RPi can get along without C6 or (C2) if you have a good power supply.
Note the large capacitor may be labeled C5 on the newer A or B boards.
Unless specified otherwise my response is based on the latest and fully updated RPiOS Buster w/ Desktop OS.

It is the large capacitor so C6 not C2, must get some new glasses!

It does not work so I will try another power supply, it has probably suffered damage somewhere else , thanks for the responses .
