External HDD clicking noise

Hey,
I have raspberry pi b+ running Openelec 5.0. The external HDD is a laptop 0.8A drive and a sata to usb 3.0 converter (also works with 2.0). I connect it to the pi through a modified 2.0 hub that has separate 2A 5V power input and 5v line is disconnected from the host data port of the hub so it doesn't back feed the pi. This works on my laptop with the same setup (hub powering the hdd) fine but with the pi it starts clicking (still kinda works tho)

Any idea?

Thanks.

Sounds as if it is spinning up / down continuously, and I would suspect it's disconnecting / reconnecting too when that happens.
Check the log (using 'dmesg' for example) to see if that's the case.
I have an external HDD that did the same just before it passed away...

Gr.
Dirk.

Is it Unitek USB3.0 to IDE + SATA Converter?
I has those issues with 2 drives with that converter both on Linux and Windows
the converter was broken and it damaged both drives
after reparing the converter and replacing drives everything works fine.
