Cannot connect to xrdp (remote desktop)

Mon Dec 29, 2014 6:34 pm

I installed xrdp, which should be a walk in the park, according to this page: http://www.raspberrypiblog.com/2012/10/ ... -from.html

When I try to login from my Win7 PC, I get a log window saying:
"connecting to sesman ip 127.0.0.1 port 3350"

That's all.
Nothing more happens.
Restarting xrdp returns no errors.
Reinstalling didn't help either.

Any ideas?

On ANY machine any IP address from the block 127.0.0.1 to 127.255.255.254 is the localhost, the machine you're using at the time trying to talk to itself.

Your RPi (if it's connected to your network) will have an address like 192.168.xxx.xxx as assigned by your home router.

Hello,

Windows 7, When you have the main rdp screen showing, enter the Pi's IP address then select show options.
rdp1.gif
rdp1.gif (15.67 KiB) Viewed 70169 times
You will then get
rpi2.gif
rpi2.gif (21.59 KiB) Viewed 70169 times
Check your Pi's IP address and enter your user name (Pi or whatever), then select Edit and enter you password, then save, then connect.I then see "connecting to sesman ip 127.0.0.1 port 3350" and it carries on. Maybe you are not setting your password or user name correctly and saving.

My Rpi has an address of 192.168.1.219, which I also have tried to force to connect to port 3389 in Windows Remote Desktop Client (192.168.1.219:3389).
Still the same result.
As the window shows the login screen from xrdp, and hence the message previously described, I am quite sure that I have the right address.
Restarting the xrdp service on the Rpi causes the PC to close the RDP-window, so this is not as simple as a wrong address.

Hello,
which I also have tried to force to connect to port 3389 in Windows Remote Desktop Client (192.168.1.219:3389).
How did you find out the IP address of the Pi?
Why that particular port?
Can you ping the Pi from windows?
Can you ping windows from the Pi?
Can you connect to the internet from the Pi?
You might have to temporally connect a keyboard, mouse and monitor/tv to the Pi.
Have a look here.

ifconfig.

Default rdp port for Windows. Port 3350 was also tried, just to be sure.
>Can you ping the Pi from windows?
Yes.

Yes.

Yes.

It's all there.

Hello,

One possible issue might be your windows firewall.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/wind ... wall-is-on
I don't use windows firewall, its turned off. I use AVG's firewall, I seem to remember I had to allow the Pi
in the firewall rules to have access to get a reply.
You could disconnect from the internet and turn off your firewall and see if you can get through.
If this doesn't work, you've got me stumped.
Maybe someone else can offer some assistance?

Why are you trying to force port at all? For me RDP just works using only the IP of the RPi.
Unless specified otherwise my response is based on the latest and fully updated Raspbian Buster w/ Desktop OS.

Hello,

I just put the IP address in and let xrdp sort it out

"klricks" is right.
Just a thought have you run xrdp (is it running) on the Pi?
In a terminal type xrdp, what do you get? I get "xrdp is already running".

I ran into the exact same issue. Not sure if this will be helpful for anyone else, but here is what corrected it for me.

It was hanging on "connecting to sesman ip 127.0.0.1 port 3350." I finally thought to run an ifconfig and found the the loopback wasn't even showing up. The interface was not active...

I re-configured my interfaces and it fixed my problem. Basically what I was missing was the "auto lo" line.

/etc/network/interfaces

auto lo

iface lo inet loopback

iface eth0 inet dhcp

auto wlan0

allow-hotplug wlan0
iface wlan0 inet static
address 192.168.1.75
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.1
wpa-conf /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf

iface default inet dhcp

This is not necessary as it gets installed by xrdp if not present.

Hi,
I'm trying to connect to my raspberry zero, but I got this error, I removed and installed xrdp and vnc but it didn't work. Has anyone had this experience before?

Hey,

I was having this issue too. I was updating the rdp and something happened to the shell during the update process and caused the rdp to not present an interface. Any workaround for this issue? I ended up having to contact an IT person running the rdp; however, is there a way myself as the user can get around this if it happens again?
