Hi all

Am new to both Linux and the raspberry pi, one thing I can't get past on the pi is the administrative password.

I consider myself reasonably pooter literate I run three laptops and an old tower for my hobbies but the pi (are we allowed to call it that?) boots up fine accepts the the user name (pi) and the password (raspberry) but I purchased a wireless dongle for it and whenever I try to install it (it did say in the ad that it is Linux compatible) it asks for the administrative password which according to Magpi of June 2nd is 'raspberry' but it will not accept it :( .

I have not changed this password, not knowingly anyway, is there a trick around it ? or will I have to send it back for another one?

A quick word on Linux I seem to have great difficulties finding folders and programs, I download something and allow where did that go, unlike Windows, I will get there in the end  .

Thanks in advance.

Best regards.

Hi,

I was able to change/set a root password by typing

Code: Select all

sudo su
(as user 'pi'). Then you are logged in as root. Now set/change the password by typing

Code: Select all

passwd
. That worked for me on the Debian image. Might also work on other Linux distributions.

Good luck!

Hiya

Thanks for the response guy's, thanks djmaster329 tried the code: select all but no joy, will keep looking at the forum and elsewhere to solve this as it is nothing but a paperweight at the moment and not a very heavy one at that.

Cheers and thanks again. :(
