It says 'errors are not fatal' so apparently there's nothing wrong, really...

Start by looking at /var/log/Xorg.0.log search that file for any lines that have "(EE)" as they document the errors that have been fatal to the Xwindows server.

And no other lines with (EE)?

In that case you have nothing wrong with your X windows server. Look elsewhere for the problem.

Not strictly true as lines tagged with "EE" may also tag non-fatal errors.....

Does the GUI actually start or not?
If it starts, can you use it as you would expect?

You can't use the GUI through vanilla SSH.
You'll either need something like VNC or an X server on your client machine...

What messages do you get when you start the GUI locally?
if you post it also give more details about your setup (hardware / software).
