7" TFT and touch screen installation

Can someone help me before this problem drives me insane? I am pretty new to Linux, and Raspbian generally. Ive purchased the Sainsmart 7" TFT with the D-WAV Scientific eGalax touch panel. The instructions that came with it, dont make a lot of sense and ive spent some 2 days now Googling and trying different things without any luck.

Most of the postings 'assume' you know something, and can read between the lines in the instructions, which for me, just adds to the confusion. Is there anywhere a comprehensive and easy to follow, step by step that even a noob like me can understand? I need someone to throw me a lifeline here before i go insane...

It would help if you showed us the instructions (or a link to them) and told us exactly what's working, what's not and if you see any error messages.
It will give you a much better chance of getting your problem solved.

Hello Dirk,
Its not so much the error messages, its the actual install instructions ive found on many sites and many posts. Most ive read, 'assume' you know something, so they miss the very basics out. Unfortunately for me, that just adds to the confusion.

Im just hoping that somewhere there may be a guide that lists every step in very small detail, simple enough for me to understand. Or better still an image of Rasp with everything set up.

Had a quick look around and it looks as if the drivers are not in Raspbian by default.

It gives a link to another howto for compiling a new kernel.

Well a few days later and im no further forward, im hitting errors even at the first stage of the link on the page from mitchtech, im getting the error "couldnt find any package by reglex 'gcc-4.6-arm-linux-gnueabi'

Reading down that page, i read its something to do with updating to 12.04lts and here is where i get lost again.

Is there not a ready done ISO file that can be simply installed? After nearly 10 days im still struggling and no further forward.
