Troubles with 3.2" tft vs Raspbian

Mon Oct 13, 2014 6:01 am

Colleagues good day!
Please help: bought a small screen http://www.wvshare.com/product/3.2inch-RPi-LCD-B.htm, anywhere in the manual says that there are no problems with connecting and setting no. However, I am the third day I bet that this device has earned. As I understand it, before you had to download the modified firmware image rasbian and pumps a driver. Now like latest firmware supports such displays, just something where you have to uncomment it in the configuration files. Help please, I beg you!

What connections have you made between the Pi and the screen?

What software are you using to control the screen?

Where did you get this information?
Unless something changed while I was asleep you will still need the image / driver provided by the manufacturer / distributor...

Did they provide you with a full Raspbian image? What problems did you have with the installation?

The seller from ebay sent me a link to the image, I downloaded and found out that the archive is damaged. Here is his letter to me:
Hello Friend
Thanks for your mail
Sorry it is my mistake,
Exact link address is http://www.gsdcdn.com/3.2inch%20RPi%20LCD.zip

Please check it again.
Thanks

They're a bunch of Chinese crooks. There's no sign of any downloadable SD card image for that pile of junk.

The board has an SPI interface so if we can discover what the driver chip is then it may be possible to drive it with Notro's FBTFT kernel drivers.

Won him away. I have found the firmware, which the Chinese hid. Tomorrow I will lay out on Yandex drive and throw a link here, so that others are not obsessed like me. TFT earned immediately. By the way from 2.8 German, too, must go, there is the same pinout.
Colleagues, thank you for your help!

Hello all,
The image file for 3.2" TFT touch screen LCD for Raspberry B/B+ by WaveShare Electronics is here:
http://yun.baidu.com/wap/link?uk=236627 ... 77&third=0
Click the link on the right (the one that says 下载(3.75GB), these characters mean "download").
Basically, this is it.
That Chinese server is bitchy so be persistent; it took me 45 (yes, forty five) hours to download the file. No Windows-based tools couldn't handle it (because of constant dropouts) so I used Epiphany on Raspi.
And this is the proof: the picture of my Raspi B+ with the 3.2" RPi LCD up and running.
http://stm6671350.narod.ru/Raspi/Raspi_with_LCD.jpg

You may also want to look here; they have a good lead (I'm referring to the image file for the Eleduino kit; LCD is the same):
http://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewt ... 00&t=87818

And, of course, here https://github.com/notro/fbtft/wiki (Image Download section) because this is what I found inside issue.txt file on my microSD after flashing it:

FBTFT image reference 2014-07-25
Raspberry Pi reference 2014-06-20 (armhf)

So it seems Notro's images should work, too. I'll post my findings on some other date.

This is the follow-up to my previous post related to the image files to be used for Raspberry Pi B/B+ with 3.2" TFT LCD by Waveshare Electronics

DVD_DVK512_CN_EN ( https://yadi.sk/d/YfnDLbaXcYGzH, ~1GB ) is the official image file from Waveshare Electronics; it is a part of their DVK512 kit; I've received the disk from my re-seller this morning - finally!

It contains image file itself (DVK512-LCD32(V3)-140817.img, ~4GB when uncompressed) and a bunch of extras (such as User's Guide in Chinese and English, some source code, schematic drawings, SD Formatter, Win32 DiskImager, and some other more or less useful stuff.) Works like magic; no installation problems to report; this LCD is truly a Plug-n-Play device.

DVD_DVK512_CN_EN_Without_Image.rar ( https://yadi.sk/d/3yhgNwsxcYGcM, ~70MB ) contains these extra files only. You may want to look at them before starting a gigabyte download.

I also checked out the Eleduino-related image file which I had mentioned in my previous post. It works *exactly* as the one supplied with DVK512, even the switching between HDMI and LCD output modes responds correctly to the DVK512 commands (ref.to DVK512 User's Guide). In short, you can use the Eleduino image, too. The only difference that I noticed is that they bundled Midori and not Epiphany.

This is the end of good news: I still have no go on the Notro's images... :(

I also have the waveshare tft lcd, but I do not want to use the image provided by the supplier (which in my case did come with the product) and I do not want to use the screen as a replacement for HDMI. I want to be able to send images to the screen.
Has someone found out how to send data such as an image via SPI to the screen? What LCD controller does it use?

I also bought this screen but i am having trouble getting it to work. I have a Model B, revision 1. Could that be the problem?

Code: Select all

gpio version: 2.21
Copyright (c) 2012-2014 Gordon Henderson
This is free software with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY.
For details type: gpio -warranty

Raspberry Pi Details:
Type: Model B, Revision: 1, Memory: 256MB, Maker: Egoman
Or should it work? The Pi displays to HDMI like it should, after I run the HDMI-show. If I run the LCD32-v3-how, the LCD stays white though.

Have you checked the voltage?
It might sound silly (after all, the screen is full of white light so power must be ON) but in fact...
In this video tutorial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUZjzQuTNX4 , for example, Ben is trying to find the voltage threshold where his display goes down. For a split second @ 4:59, one can see that there is no image against a completely white background. The perfectly operational LCD simply browned out...

@japius:
I managed to get it working on a rev 1 board.
Because of the change of 3 pin mappings between rev1 and rev2 you have to change the GPIO signal used for the reset of the display. With version 3 of the display the pin 13 is used for reset. On rev2 boards this pin is routed to GPIO27 but on rev1 boards to GPIO21 (see http://elinux.org/RPi_Low-level_periphe ... .28GPIO.29).
That's why you have to change the reset signal for the display in /etc/modules. Edit line 10 such that it reads:

Code: Select all

btft_device name=flexfb gpios=dc:22,reset:21 speed=48000000
In order for the display switch script (LCD32-show-sys-v3) to copy a corrected config file change the respective file in the subdirectory of the switch script (in my case: /home/pi/DVK512/LCD32-v3-show/etc/modules).

@igor: I did not manage to make time to check the voltage. I planned on doing so these holidays. But now, @timolein posted a solution that seemed to make sense. And guess what: i now have a working screen! Thank you all!

'The' display? The same as linked in the top post?
If not, please start a new topic and provide links to screen / software.

If you want to install the LCDs on a clean version of Raspbian or Rasbmc, I have written up a step by step guide with a beginner in mind on how to do it. It took several days of research to find out exactly how to install the drivers and get the touchscreen configured and calibrated correctly, but I have it working nicely. If you want to save some time and headaches, check out the article here: http://www.circuitbasics.com/setup-lcd- ... pberry-pi/

maybe you had downloaded the inappropriate firmware, so you must make sure that the firmware you have is appropriate for the corresponding version of the screen.
good luck!

Is it possible to make backlight turned off on this display?
