4 green flashes, no boot!

Fri Sep 19, 2014 10:46 pm

Hi!
Im new to this.

Im trying to install a raspbmc with no luck. Currently without an internet connection thats why im using the standalone image. I have a sd card 8 gb and a 2gb transcend SD-card. On 3 different computers with their own sdcard-reader.
Different displays and HDMI-cables.
I also tried with NOOBs standalone, Openelec network install, wheezy raspian and so on.
Still the same 4 green flashes. Nothing more.

So i eventually found this: 3 flashes: loader.bin not found 4 flashes: loader.bin not launched 5 flashes: start.elf not found 6 flashes: start.elf not launched 7 flashes: kernel.img not found Firmware since 20th October 2012 no longer requires loader.bin, and the flashes mean: 3 flashes: start.elf not found 4 flashes: start.elf not launched 7 flashes: kernel.img not found 8 flashes: SDRAM not recognised. You need newer bootcode.bin/start.elf firmware.

Tried to google a different start.elf-file, just found this one: https://github.com/raspberrypi/firmware ... /start.elf replaced the one on the sdcard but still with no luck.

Does anybody have an idea how to fix it?
Is it something wrong with my Pi?

Thank you!

The files have not been written to SD Card correctly or the SD Card is knackered.

FYI information the 2GB Card is to small use only the 8GB one..
Rather than negativity think outside the box !
RPi 4B 4GB (SSD Boot)..
Asus ChromeBox 3 Celeron is my other computer...

Thank you for your reply.

Ive tried 3 different sd-card readers, and the sd-card i brand new.
Im following the instructions regarding how to write files to the sd-card.

This is tricky! :?

Could you post a full directory listing of the boot partition?

Here you go!

These files are located in F:\

bootcode.bin
cmdline.txt
config.txt
fixup_x.dat
kernel.img
LICENCE.broadcom
start_x.elf

Burned the image on a 8 gb sdcard that now shows 60 mb in total. Maybe the other partition isnt visible in windows.

Thank you!

fyi: only the FAT32 partion is seen by Windows NT, natively it will not read EXT file systems

The textfile looks exactly like this when i create it via dir > print.txt in cmd:

Code: Select all

2014-07-30 14:32 17ÿ840 bootcode.bin
2014-06-11 06:13 200 cmdline.txt
2014-07-30 14:32 8ÿ964 fixup_x.dat
2014-06-11 06:13 5ÿ094ÿ112 kernel.img
2014-06-11 06:13 1ÿ447 LICENCE.broadcom
2014-07-30 14:32 3ÿ536ÿ776 start_x.elf
2014-08-19 14:49 161 config.txt
2014-09-20 19:54 0 print.txt
               8 fil(er) 8ÿ659ÿ500 byte
               0 katalog(er) 63ÿ576ÿ064 byte ledigt

But i can see the sizes of all the files in the GUI-interface F:\

kernel.img is 4975 kb
bootcode is 18 kb
start_x.elf is 3454 kb
fixup_x.dat is 9 kb
LICENCE.broadcom is 2 kb
cmdline and config is 1 kb

Hope that this will help a little!

Unfortunately I can't see anything obviously wrong.

Weird! Are you running raspmbc?
What could it be? The pi?

No, I'm not running raspbmc. Mine shows a reasonably up to date Raspbian.

It's difficult without an internet connection. I'd download the current Raspbian and just try that.

Oh ok.
I've downloaded 2014-09-09-wheezy-raspbian.rar ~955 mb, and burned the image. Still the same problem.

Frustrating

Hi raspmeplease -- by "Changed the pi in store", you're saying you returned it under warranty and got a replacement and that worked? If so, interesting. I have a Model 2 (4 core) doing the exact same thing, but the card, which has s/w compatible with both model 2 & the B+, is working fine in another B+.. So it would seem there is some kind of weakness? In my case, I left it the Model 2 on 24/7 for several weeks then it locked, had to turn it off. I restored the SD card from a backup, to no avail. As said, the same copy works in a B+. Perhaps the hardware is fallible after all?
