Re: Tons of errors after doing apt-get update and upgrade

Mon Oct 12, 2015 12:09 pm

hello,
i have also problems with the update of my system. if apt-get runs over three days and something crashed or power fail, the sd card was damaged and no more usable.

since this day, i have installed the system on this pi with iscsi and use an image on the harddisk of my server. i can update this without damage the sd card, because apt get write many many to the same position on the card on update. on the iscsi-image it makes no differencs if a sector is written one million a time or less.

after update this system, i can copy the update with rsync on any other pi.

goodby

I have the same issue with a Sandisk Ultra 32GB (from Costco) on a B+. I'm using 2016-03-18-raspbian-jessie-lite.img and I do:

1- sudo raspi-config to expand fs
2- Reboot
3- sudo apt-get update (got sudo: update: command not found here on one of my multiple retry...)
4- sudo apt-get upgrade -y
5- Reboot (everything seems good)
6- sudo apt-get install mono-complete -y
7- tons of errors

Any fix for that? Am I doing something wrong?

[EDIT] Fixed commands

The commands are:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
Unless specified otherwise my response is based on the latest and fully updated Raspbian Buster w/ Desktop OS.

Oups forget the update error, it was my last retry and I think I was tired:)

Anyway, I always get a tons of EXT-4FX/read-only filesystem errors after:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update | sudo apt-get upgrade -y

I just ran H2Testw and my SD Card seems to be a legit one:
Test finished without errors.
You can now delete the test files *.h2w or verify them again.
Writing speed: 32.4 MByte/s
Reading speed: 79.5 MByte/s
H2testw v1.4

You've got the wrong punctuation between the two commands. Don't pipe the output of update into upgrade it won't work.

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get -y upgrade # test the update works then run upgrade
sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get -y upgrade # run update then run upgrade regardless
