I have a Model B+.
I am running RaspBMC which I installed from NOOBS about 2 weeks ago.
I am using my iphone as my remote control.
When I want to shut it off, I click down to the power icon and select "Power off System". When I do, it goes to a blue screen that has the little grey box that tells me to Relax! It then hangs and after a while, it will restart. I always get the warning that I should Power Down correctly when I switch it back on.

I do not want to 'putty' or 'SSH' from any other machine.
I can't find how to open a terminal window because I'm not using a keyboard, I'm using my iphone to control it and that doesn't have an ESC key. Not that it would matter because I don't want to use typed shutdown commands on an OS that has a 'Power off' button.

I have updated and have auto updates turned on. It's connected to my TV via HDMI and when I use the Power Down button, it turns my TV off (which I'm happy to turn back on).

All I really want to do is fix the power off functionality without having to open a terminal and shut it down with text commands.

What you need to do is run rpi-update. If you don't want to use SSH or open terminal windows, that's going to be tricky for you. You can update the firmware manually, but I'm not getting into that until there's a valid reason not to ssh or open a terminal window.

OK, if I run rpi update does that fix it? Obviously, I'm not against opening a terminal window to fix the problem, I just don't want to do it every time I want to shut down.

Please tell me how to run rpi update.
