install failed

Thu Jul 24, 2014 7:15 pm

Hi there,

I expect i am in the wrong place to ask a basic question but i have read so many pages i cannot find where i should ask for help.
My problem is i have a new PI or two and i tried to install using a genuine pi sd card it goes to the main screen where you have to pick which os you want but i cannot enter which i want i have tried 3 keyboards two wireless and a wired one along with two different mice but they were both wireless and i still cannot manage to get beyond this any idea how i can test if the usb sockets are working?

I actually have 2 model B+ pi's and they are both the same so i have no idea what the problem is, forgot to say all the keyboards and mice work on my desktop machine.

You need the latest version of Noobs to work with the B+

Rather than negativity think outside the box !
RPi 4B 4GB (SSD Boot) RaspiOS64 ARM64
Asus ChromeBox 3 Celeron is my other computer...

It seems you may have been provided with a pre-installed NOOBS card which may not be sufficiently up to date to work properly with the B+ . If it is a NOOBS card, what version? (This may be found in the BUILD-DATA file). Your issue appears similar to that here: http://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewt ... 28&t=82486
Re-formatting the card, downloading and installing NOOBS 1.3.9 may be the "way to go". (http://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/ )
Trev.
Still running Raspbian Jessie or Stretch on some older Pi's (an A, B1, 2xB2, B+, P2B, 3xP0, P0W, 2xP3A+, P3B+, P3B, B+, and a A+) but Buster on the P4B's. See: https://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_pi/raspiidx.htm

If you pull the stuff from https://github.com/Hexxeh/rpi-firmware you can replace bootcode.bin and start.elf on the FAT partition on the SDCard to get it bootable.

it looks like that has done it it recognised the mouse straight away.

I think that the section for noobs should have a page for the very basic things like this fault i bet there are many people who have lots of very basic questions, I started programing on a Acorn Atom many years ago before you could buy a built machine, it all came in a big plastic bag with everything loose including the keys for the keyboard which were made up of three springs a press cover and you had to solder them all together, I was lucky as i paid extra for a second KB of ram so i had two KB but 1/2 KB was used up when you booted so 1.5KB to use and i managed to write space invaders the same as the arcade machines which i was very proud of at the time but that was many many years ago i have not done any programing in many years.

many thanks for your help

one last thing i just thought of is is there a list of programing function keywords for Raspberry? as yet i have not seen the device in use so i was thinking of when we programed in either Basic, assembler or pure machine code?

again many thanks.

To get started with programming your RPi read all 25 back issues of The MagPi magazine at http://themagpi.com
