IDLE3: Subprocess Startup Error

Fri Jul 18, 2014 12:56 pm

I opened the IDLE 3 on my Pi and got a Subprocess Startup Error pop up. It says "IDLE's subprocess didn't make connection. Either IDLE can't start a subprocess or personal firewell software is blocking the connection."

This has never happened before. What should I do? I need to use IDLE3 but it shuts down after it prompts this message.

One of the common reasons for this error is that a python script has been saved with the same name as a provided Python library.

The best advice that I found based on research on several forums was to start IDLE3 from the command line using LXTerminal. This should give you a better indication of the specific issue that is preventing the Python shell from starting up on your Raspberry Pi.

Just type idle3 at the command prompt.
In my case I had called a script tkinter.py while I was learning about window functionality. Deleting my script resolved the startup issue.
