Hi,

Raspberry Pi came in the post 2 days ago, and when I plug the HDMI cable into the Pi from the TV, there is no output on any of the AV channels.

I do not think there is a problem with booting from the SD card, as the green light on the Pi flashes to show that the memory card is being read, but if needed, I have a PNY 8GB SDHC card.

There is also no config.txt file so I can alter the settings in my SD card. So now not sure what to do.

Have you tried connecting your pi via composite video? If you can get any output from composite video, you might want to take a look at this link from the wiki: http://elinux.org/R-Pi_Troubleshooting# ... put_at_all

Unlike a conventional PC that always puts out a picture whenever you power on, the PI doesn't do anything unless it can boot properly from an SD-card.
So if you failed to properly create an SD-card then do not expect to see anything on the screen, whether HDMI or composite.

The config.txt file isn't created until the boot software can read "edid" information from your monitor, and compile a valid config.txt settings from it, then compose a valid config.txt from it, and write that back to the sd-card.
So no config.txt in the /boot directory on the sd-card, (with a turned on HDMI monitor connected) is another indication that the PI couldn't properly boot
