Booting but no composite?

Mon Jun 02, 2014 4:07 am

I successfully installed Raspbian while my Pi was connected to HDMI. Everything looked and worked great.

However, I am not having any luck with the composite output. I've opened and attempted to modify the config.txt but its still not working. I noticed that sdtv mode was set to PAL, instead of NTSC. I also tried to uncomment the force HDMI. i also connected the Pi to two different composite TVs to verify it wasn't the TV.

what am i doing wrong?

thanks

You need to update the right config.txt. With a NOOBS install there are two copies.

Boot the system while holding the [SHIFT] key. Use the NOOBS config.txt editor to update the one used by Raspbian.

You need to edit the configuration file and add # prefix to hdmi_force_hotplug=1 to disable forced HDMI mode.

I reloaded the newest version of NOOBS and booted shift 4. Raspian is loading loading fine on my old 13" composite.

btw, im an elementary school media arts teacher looking to introduce Raspberry Pi to my students next school year. i'll be experimenting all summer. yay!

you could also try unplugging the HDMI cable.

Which has no effect in NOOBS now. NOOBS assumes you are using HDMI unless you press one of the keys to signal otherwise.

I believe that was decided because a number of cables and monitors weren't providing the HDMI hotplug signal.
