No audio on the HDMI port

Tue May 27, 2014 5:37 pm

I have a model B Raspberry Pi running Raspian Build 3.10.25+
I have no audio out on my HDMI port.
If I use Raspi-config to force audio out the 3mm plug and test with Speaker-test I can get a sine wave o headphones.
But once I change it to force HDMI I get no audio. At first I thought it might be the lapdock but I connected the Pi to my TV through the same cable as my Apple TV and still no audio.

Thanks in advance
Mark

The first two suggestions do not work.

If I try to edit config.txt with leafpad it will not save. I tell it to overwrite the existing config.txt file and it says "Can't open file to write".
Leafpad gives me the same problem if I try to save as to a different name.

If I boot and hold down the shift button the NOOBS screen will not open config.txt to edit(option is greyed out)

Have you filled all the free space on your root filesystem on the SD card perhaps?

File manager shows /boot has 42.5MB free on an 8 gig SD card

You need to be root to write files in /boot. Either prefix the editor invocation with sudo or put the SD card in another computer and edit it there.

Not sure how you are testing your audio, but when I run omxplayer I always have to use option -r for the audio to work.

I am plugging the Pi's HDMI port into a HDMI TV that I know passes audio to the speaker. And not getting any audio from the Pi.

I have used MOC to play a track. It plays thru the Audio jack when that is selected but not to the HDMI port when that is selected.

Still trying to find a way to edit Config.txt

OK got it working.

Edited Config.txt by reading the MagPi Vol 3 PG 4

sudo nano /boot/config.txt

Changed the HDMI_drive=2 and its working with Mocp (DR Who theme) and speaker-test sine wave

Thanks to all for the help
