Rpi not connecting to ntp server

Thu May 22, 2014 8:46 pm

Hi everyone,

This is my first time using a raspberry pi and I'm trying to get it to show me the date and time correctly without using an RTC.
Unfortunately, the time is a bit off on the Rpi and I'm trying to fix that. I tried all the solutions posted here
http://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewt ... 63&t=59893
but none of them are working.

Bottom line is that whichever ntp server I use, it's not able to connect to it.
When I do ntpq -p this is the terminal just shows 0 for reach and 0.000 for delay, offset and jitter. It just shows a blank(-) under when. Is there something I've configured wrong? I appreciate any help. Thanks!

Which Operating System are you using on your RPi?

Do you have reason to believe that your RPi has a fully working internet connection?

start with
sudo ntpd -q -g
that will set your clock even if it's off by more than 1000s from current time.

sudo /etc/init.d/ntp start
should get ntp running permanently.
