config.txt resolution problems

Wed Jun 06, 2012 11:15 pm

I have successfully modified my config.txt with the following commands:

Code: Select all

hdmi_drive= 1
hdmi_group=2
hdmi_mode=58
... using this method:
http://elinux.org/R-Pi_ConfigurationFile

...referencing these properties and values:
http://elinux.org/RPi_config.txt

I have this monitor (ASUS VW224U):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6824236237

... with a native resolution of 1680 x 1050. I'm connecting to the RPi with a DVI-HDMI cable. The resolution by default is smaller and showing a black bar all around the edge of the screen. When I view the resolution in Preferences>Monitor Settings, I see 1584x954 and auto. Changing anything here has no affect. I'm running debian6-19-04-2012. Obviously the goal here is to run the pi at the native resolution of the monitor. Any suggestions?

disable_overscan=1

This also disables underscan.

thanks! that worked. Is there a better source where I could have found something like that?

You could have found it in the troubleshooting wiki http://elinux.org/R-Pi_Troubleshooting#Display

Thank you for this post - the disable_overscan fixed two of problems at once:

1. The display didn't fit my 1920x1080 monitor.
2. The display kept blacking out when running Scratch.

Thanks again

Ahha, just what I was looking for. I had the black border issue on my 24" monitor and simply uncommenting the disable_overscan line helped.
