There's no reason to do that (i.e. you shouldn't be!)

AIUI the 'next' branch is only used to "test out" experimental features, and once those features have been proved as working, then the 'next' branch gets "abandoned" and only the 'master' branch gets updated from then on.
For :
  • 'master' was last updated on 23 July 2014
  • 'next' was last updated on 25 April 2014
  • 'fiq_split' was last updated 31 May 2013 (another discarded testing branch)
So by sticking to the redundant 'next' branch you'll be missing out on a lot of bugfixes :(

I was having the same problem with mysql and being stuck during the apt-get process. I am running Raspbian on a B+ model.

I did

Code: Select all

sudo rpi-update f6eef32dd6388c3b04dbf462bd324d93281bf397
and afterwards the ethernet port does not seem to work anymore. Keyboard access via UBS does not seem to work as well. What went wrong?

Getting this on the latest version of Raspbmc :/

Am experiencing this issue on 3.12.21 - not sure how this is present as the link below suggest it was fixed in an earlier version: ... e22606d3de

1. Anyone knows how to apply the fix above to a running pi? perhaps taking out SD and connecting it to an Ubuntu workstation?
2. Does this happen if you install mysql from source?
