File in Samba share not showing up

Thu May 01, 2014 3:27 am

Hello all,

I've searched for awhile and couldn't find what I needed so I've decided to ask for your help. I've had my pi up and running (successfully) for a little over a month now. I am using it as a NAS with one 1TB HDD hooked up to it with all of my documents on it. I recently did some updating and tweaking with no issues. After a reboot or two I noticed that my Windows 7 network drive (Z:) that I had set the raspnas up on said "This folder doesn't contain any files". I went back through the set up process and basically did everything over again which worked and I could see my files. Today I was making sure I had SSH up and running and after a reboot my files are "missing" again. I've tried everything from redoing the entire setup process to unmounting and remounting the HDD to no solution. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Links below to the setup instructions I am using.

build:
RASPBIAN
Debian Wheezy
Version:January 2014
Release date:2014-01-07

In the case of "not working":
- Have you still access with SSH?
- What happens, if you enter RasPis IP-address in windows-explorer instead of using drive-letter?

A: What does the command 'cat /dev/urandom', can you tell me please?
B: Yeah, that's very simple: It feeds your cat with radioactive material!

I still have access via PuTTY with SSH (to clarify, pi is headless and only accessing with PuTTY on laptop).
I typed in the IP into a windows explorer bar and got the same "error" (attached screen shot).

I am preparing myself to just reflash the image on the SD card and start over. Is there a way to make sure the HDD attached is always automounted? I feel like that could be the issue, perhaps I'm wrong. Thanks for the reply!

Then you can test via SSH if harddisk is still mounted, if SAMBA is still running, what the logfiles says etc.!

PS: May be, reinstalling everything will solve the problem or may be not? But it will never clarify, what's really going on ...
