SDHC Corruption on apt-get upgrade

Tue Apr 22, 2014 9:09 am

Hello,

I face a sdhc corruption problem with my Raspberry PI.

Context:
- No overclock,
- SDHC Class 10 16G Samsung (Samsung Plus UHS-1 Class 10, 16GB Micro SDHC Card),
- Two Rapsberry PI,
- Official power plugs,
- No additional devices on USB ports.

In fact, every time i try a apt-get upgrade, it fails in the installation progress with SD corruption.
I tried this with Raspbian, NOOBS/Rapsbian.
I tried this on both Raspberry PI.
I tried with rpi-update before but i had the same issue.

Can you help me?

Thanks in advace
Have a nice day.

I had similar problem when my SD card was full.
Did you run the raspi-config utility option 1 to expand filesystem to fill SD card AND reboot before attempting to update?
Unless specified otherwise my response is based on the latest and fully updated Raspbian Buster w/ Desktop OS.

Yes.
I expanded the filesystem, reboot, control the full disk is available.
After, i made a rpi-upgrade.
I reboot.
Finally, i made an apt-get update and an apt-get upgrade.

For information, i used OpenElec on a 8GB SD card and i have no problem.

When shutting down make sure you allow time for the process to complete before pulling the power plug. The green LED will blink 10 times when done.
Why are you doing rpi-update?
For most situations doing sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get upgrade is sufficient.

You can get some space back by deleting some of the backup directories used by rpi-update and stuff from apt-get that's no longer needed.

sudo rm -rf /root/.rpi-firmware # if it exists
sudo rm -rf /boot.bak # if it exists
sudo rm -rf /lib/modules/3.10.??? # where 3.10.??? is NOT the kernel version returned from uname -r
sudo apt-get autoremove
sudo apt-get autoclean

Having same issue, thought it was a model B+ problem. Same thing happens with a model B. Using SDFormatter V4.0 to format a Samsung 16 GB microSDHC UHS-I card (tried 2 different cards), then load NOOBS 1.3.9, choose Raspian, installs fine boot, everything fine, startx brings up the desktop, everything normal. Do a sudo apt-get update, followed by a sudo apt-get upgrade. From this point on the OS is unstable. Also purchased 2 Samsung 32 GB microSDHC UHS-I cards, wondering if there is a recommended microSD card that works without purchasing a pre-installed version?

Is it possible you've been unlucky enough to buy fake or faulty SD cards? You can use H2testw to check the card doesn't have any errors. Or SD card corruption is also sometimes caused by an inadequate PSU :?

This is the same exact problem that is happening to me. I didn't see this thread before, so I created one here: http://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewt ... 57#p602257

I have tested this with different SD cards, different USB charger and cables. SAME...EXACT... PROBLEM all the time.

Feel free to join our discussion there. I believe this is a bigger problem and affect certain B+ board OR the upgrade process, though I am not certain yet.

Code: Select all

sudo rpi-update
If you have undertaken the rpi-update, then it may be prudent to roll back to an earlier version......
