Unable to setup Dynamic DNS to access Pi

Hi all,

Figured this is the best place to post. I am trying to setup my Pi so that I can access it from outside of my home network. I currently have it setup in a shelf in the spare room and I control it using SSH.

The main purpose of my Pi is a download manager and IRC bouncer.

So I'd like to be able to access it from work to utilise Irssi, and also check my downloads.

I have an account and subdomain registered with both DYNDNS and FREEDNS. however I'm running into problems getting it setup. I've done a google search and tried a few guides and nothing seems to be working.

Does anyone have recommendations or any links as to how I can get this setup, with the end goal being

SSH remote access
Remote access to Web GUI's for some software I'm running

I'm using Debian Squeeze on a 8GB card.

Well a friend has got back through G+ to advise using

DDclient

And a reconfigure command to go through the setup,

Will try this out later to see if it works

Are you aware that you will need to forward ports from your router to the Pi?

If not, then research on that would be your best bet.

Yes this will be fine.

I have done this similar for a number of laptops. I'm essentially using Pi's to replace laptops I use for automation in the house.

I was just struggling with actually getting the DynamicDNS setup.

I'll be having another crack at this again tonight. Will also need to get it running on a port that my work network wont block.

Your router will block this setup by default. You need to open the ports and then forward the ports to the RPi.

Note that your ISP may disable some types of traffic inbound to your router, there is no way to get around this except by paying extra to your ISP.

Nah my ISP is fine, its pretty non-restrictive.

As I said the set-up I'm going for with my Pi's I've had for some time just on big bulky laptops.

I guess while we are on the topic, is there anything obscure to be done on the Pi end for the ports?

I know I can go into my router and just add its IP address to a table there and it will allow me to select a multitude of ports to provide

All up and running ok now.

I just had to mess with the ddclient.conf a bit.

Now I need to get it accessing port 443

Ran some tests from work.

All is fine and well, can access my Pi remotely.

Have to say the only reason for such functionality is so that I can use irssi, but its still cool to be able to do it.

Don't forget to forward the ports for your services on your router to your Pi's IP!!!
