Dell C1760nw / Xerox Phaser 6000B

Tue Apr 01, 2014 5:16 pm

Hey Guys,

Attempting to setup my Dell printer through cups but having no luck so far. It is a rebadged Xerox Phaser 6000B and I found after purchasing that you can use the linux driver for the Xerox instead (As Dell do not supply a Linux Driver). The issue is there is no arm architecture version of this driver available. I've tried a few things but it seems I am just going round in a loop. Does anyone know of either another Xerox driver that can be used or any workaround for this?

Thanks
Jamie

Hi Jamie,

I have same problem but with Phaser 3010 & Phaser 3040 -> no ARM drivers.

Maybe you will be able to determine your printer to work with one of these:

1. Dell OpenSource drivers: https://www.openprinting.org/printers/manufacturer/Dell
2. Xerox OpenSource drivers: https://www.openprinting.org/printers/m ... rer/Xerox/
2. If your printed uses GDI, try the generic GDI drivers: https://www.openprinting.org/printer/Ge ... DI_Printer

Good luck!

3010 and 3040 look similar to 6000b, will have a look if any hardware similarities. Can't find anything for mine on Dell or Xerox on OpenPrinting. Seems my one may have GDI, looks promising anyway.

Thanks

Progress it seems...
When printing a test page it will wake the printer, but that is all :? this is with a Generic PostScript Printer driver.

Hmm any ideas?
Thanks

Hi,

Same here: the printer awakes but no paper delivered.

One side note: my Printer (3010) replaces 3155 (this is official note on Xerox site for the 3155 model: was replaced by 3010).
If your printer is replacing an older model try the driver from the older model.
For me it did not worked...but maybe you are more lucky!

Best,

HRTS

Hey,

I don't think it is a upgrade / replacement. It seems the model numbers around it such as 6100 are completely different spec wise.
Grrrr, this is annoying!

Thanks
Jamie

Did anyone have any luck with this?

I've got a Dell 1250C Colour Laser which apparently works with the Xerox Phaser 6000B driver too but I can't find anything to get it working on the Raspberry Pi/ARM.

There's the i386 driver available and an RPM but nothing for ARM unfortunately.

Unfortunately I ended up having to setup a windows PC as a google print cloud server and so could print via chrome and that's it.

Haven't found any other work arounds.

I extracted the PPD file from the RPM and also extracted all the system files and copied them over but that didn't work.

I'll probably end up using my Windows server like I had previously. Shame.

This seems to say just the PPD should work:

http://codefucius.blogspot.co.uk/2014/0 ... ter-up.htm

or as passthrough with rendering on the client PC:
http://forum.stmlabs.com/showthread.php?tid=12504

I have the scanner/copier/fax version of this printer so will have a go later this week.

The problem is the driver is x86 and so won't run on the arm processor of the pi.

Starting off the pi sees it on two ports

Code: Select all

 ls /dev/usb
lp0  lp1
over on the windows pc, I changed the driver port to "FILE" and printed a test page.
That gives you the .prn file

Code: Select all

sudo cp /mnt/pc/del1765.prn /dev/usb/lp0
which printed ok

looking at the start of the .prn dump file:

Code: Select all

2345X@PJL JOB NAME=PRINTER
@PJL SET JOBATTR=HOST:HPDESK
@PJL SET JOBATTR=OWNR:SYSTEM
@PJL SET JOBATTR=DOCU:Test Page
@PJL SET JOBATTR=USER:Mike
@PJL SET JOBATTR=MMSI:ON
@PJL SET DUPLEX=OFF
@PJL SET IWAMANUALDUP=OFF
@PJL SET MEDIASOURCE=0
@PJL SET RENDERMODE=COLOR
@PJL SET RESOLUTION=600
@PJL SET BITSPERPIXEL=2
@PJL SET COPIES=1
@PJL ENTER LANGUAGE=HBPL
I'm going to have some fun changing that last line HBPL to PCL/postscript etc to see what I can do.

Downloaded Dave Coffin's driver:
http://cybercom.net/~dcoffin/hbpl/

Code: Select all

wget http://cybercom.net/~dcoffin/hbpl/foo2zjs.tar.xz
tar -xvf foo2zjs.tar.xz
cd foo2zjs
compile and install it:

Code: Select all

make
sudo make install
(took about 10 mins)

Then select the new driver in CUPS web admin:
Image

Now printing fine !

[edit] hmm long delays at "sending to printer" on colour ( 3+ mins) - maybe that's just the slow raspberry pi
wish cups had a progress percentage !

Just tried this, as soon as I send a print Job or test page the printer wakes but says "Cancelling Job..." seems something isn't quite right

Just noticed from my own screenshot above the C1760 and C1765 use a different driver,
you could try the C1765 one ?

The 1765 is just the 1760 with a scanner and fax - I understood is was exactly the same otherwise .

Just tried and its doing the exact same thing, maybe because I'm connecting over the network instead of via USB?

Yeah I tried that first as they're in separate locations of the house at the moment. Will try USB tomorrow. Seems port 9100 doesn't work for some reason through cups but yet dnssd works fine.

Hi There (from Germany),
does any one have a reasonable solution to this problem? It´s now my 5. day i am trying to get my Dell c1250 to run on the RPI.
It wakes the printer up but the test page ist not printed. On the printer the "!" is blinking.
Hope this issuse/post is not closed yet.

Did anyone make any more progress?

I have tried the foo2hbpl method and I'm getting no prints, but completed jobs in CUPS.

The annoying thing is that if I plug the printer into my dd-wrt router I can add the printer there, I assume in some sort of RAW mode and add the shared printer in Windows and it works great over the network shared via the dd-wrt router. There must be a similar way to do this since I don't actually need to print from the RPi, just need to use it to share the printer on the network.

It's working!

I added the printer as a RAW printer in CUPS on the RPi
Enabled sharing and installed samba
Added the printer in Windows 7 using the samba shared address/location
Installed Windows Dell 1250c driver
Success!

I had tried using the CUPS :631 address and port 9100, none of those worked. Samba was the answer.

You can then use these instructions for installing on an x86/x64 ubuntu/debian system - http://meshfields.de/install-dell-1250c ... -fritzbox/
