That's quite strange because all the files I'm playing are 16bit / 44Hz.

Among the Linux 3.13 commits I've found the patch ALSA: improve buffer size computations for USB PCM audio. Do you think it could help? If it is the case could it be possible to update the kernel in the next branch to include this patch?

Just a heads up.

has been updated to 3.12.17 (the default firmware will follow).
The FIQ FSM patches are still in place.
Let us know if there are any new problems.

Started with a fresh install of Wheezy (not Nobs) and works AOK except the screen resolution has become lower, on 19" DVi 4:3 screen it was like 1024×768 now looks more like 640×480, at least can read the screen without glasses ROFL

I don't believe this was caused by the kernel update (it has no control over HDMI resolution). Most likely a previous firmware update.
Can you run:

Which is the previous 3.10 FIQ FSM firmware and report if that has the same resolution?

I can't give you more details because I don't have a display or a serial cable. The SD card LED blinks, then only power stays on. USB doesn't appear to get initialized and my systemd journal log stops at the previous shut down (although I don't remember being able to diagnose boot issues even from the syslog files on Raspbian).

I believe I was getting the same behavior when (because of SD card corruption issues and the fsck prompt) it wasn't able to mount the root fs, although this is hardly the only reason for a boot to fail.

I just ran:

With regards to the leds, only the red PWR is on.

Distribution is an up to date ArchlinuxARM and unfortunately it's headless at the moment and I can't see where it's stuck. I will come back with details ASAP.

This has happened before on another install, as stated this was a fresh install Jan 2014 Raspbian Wheezy image, not using Noobs, with no updates what-so-ever.

On a fresh install have black border all around, made no changes just ran the rpi-update and now no black borders but screen resolution is physically smaller, hence text size bigger.

I am using a HDMi Cable and a HDMi to DVi adaptor on the HannsG 4:3 Monitor.

Will try the command later and post back results

Yes, it is likely you have a broken EDID (try tvservice -d edid.dat as see if it writes zero bytes).
We used to default to 720p60 in this case, but were advised not to by the hdmi guy here.
720p60 is not manditory, so may not work, whereas VGA is manditory, so we should use that in this case. You will need to use hdmi_group/hdmi_mode to choose a suitable resolution in this case.

Not very good to suddenly find that the options one has choosen for screen size go out of the window (pardon the pun), the only changes I needed to make was -60 on L, R, T, B and left the rest of the config.txt as standard, now will have to mess around to get the resolution to where it was.....

EDIT: Actually srenn resolution turned out easier than before update to configur now solved. No side issue from kernel update so happy.....

I beleve these would be the options it was using previously:

But we're off topic for this thread. Create a new thread or a github firmware issue if you have more comments on this.

Update:

BRANCH=next rpi-update firmware now has improvements in error handling in the case of random bus errors.

Previously over an extended period, network dropouts could occur if sufficient numbers of errors accumulated.

I have USB issues with for example bluetooth dongles so I am expecting a lot from this new driver.
I have to thank you a lot, the system seems more stable. Bluetooth dongle has less disconnection.
But with Huawei modem, I have still issues with some models. There is no FSM trace in the syslog so I think it is more the fault of the modem, anyway I do not have usable information to give you back on this thread. But other USB devices on the hub begin to act weirdly, loadavg goes higher, etc... Sometimes I plug the modem and lost a WiFi dongle (having suddenly lots of debug traces from rt2x00), timeout on hci command to the bluetooth dongle, ...
I have some RPI that I have to deploy next week. There are running and updated continuously with your updates since the begin of this thread. I have no problem to test your fix but I am a little afraid to change of major version of the kernel, to many risk on side effect and I could not have time to manage and fix these before next week.

Tomorrow I could also watch if I can backport the commit myself on my local repo so I understand if you do not have time for this...

I have updated rpi-3.10.y-next tree, but you will have to build yourself.
BRANCH=next builds will come from 3.12 tree.

Fatal: cannot locate cpu MHz in /proc/cpuinfo
Guvcview is broken because of this line.

I have no idea why the BogoMIPS value in /proc/cpuinfo is so critical to its operation.

The new kernel works, but now I hear noise on all the files I play.

The files that sounded distorted with the previous version are still distorted in the same way and for those files I get the usual "FIQ reported NYET" errors. Whereas if I play the files that sounded good with the previous version now I hear a lot of noise but I get no errors from dmesg.

I've tried to downgrade to the commit of March 19th but I get this error:
