cant download to SD card

Fri Feb 07, 2014 6:04 pm

ok dont know what i did but had RaspbarryXBMC running, lost sound no matter what i went on. Then it would play video & stop. When it did this it would say XBMC will restart. Now when i trun it on all it will do is load command lines (like it did when i got the SD card) but stops at (can not mount ).

My computer wont read the sd card to formate and reload Raspberry XMBC on it. I know it has to be the sd card i tried it in my other raspberry and it dose the same thing. So any one know what i did worng besides mess up?

Looks like you've suffered filesystem/SD Card corruption. Are you trying to re-format the card with "ordinary" Windows "tools"? If so, try the recommended SDA Formatting tool (https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/ ) instead, with the settings shown here:
http://www.cpmspectrepi.webspace.virgin ... reparation or, if you have one, try formatting it in a digital camera.

Still running Raspbian Jessie or Stretch on some older Pi's (an A, B1, 2xB2, B+, P2B, 3xP0, P0W, 2xP3A+, P3B+, P3B, B+, and a A+) but Buster on the P4B's. See: https://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_pi/raspiidx.htm

Are you using a "bulit-in" SD card slot or an external "USB stick-like" card reader/writer? (Some built-in card slots are not fully SDHC compatible an may not work with cards larger than 4Gb).
Assuming you're Windows based, what version? Do you have "admin" rights?
You say "Both of these cards are from Raspberry" were they pre-installed with NOOBS, and did you use that to install RaspBMC?
(Like this one here: http://swag.raspberrypi.org/collections ... gb-sd-card ?)

I'm guessing that both your cards came with NOOBS pre-installed and that you've never had occasion to require, or have never succeeded at, installing anything on either of the cards via your PC. I'm wondering if your SD card reader doesn't support SDHC cards. Almost all 4 Gbyte cards are SDHC and these have a different interface protocol from the one used in all SD cards up to and including 2 Gbyte (and a few very rare 4Gbyte cards.) Older hardware that was designed before the SDHC specification won't work with SDHC cards.

If the above is the case, get yourself another card reader. If you are near a Poundland shop they can be had there. I'll leave you to guess the price. :)

Yes and no!

There is more than one type of file system on the SD cards that RPis use. Windows only understands (and only sees, and only displays) one of them.

So an "unaided" WIn 7 computer cannot copy RPi SD cards.

By installing various other bits of software a Win 7 computer could copy the cards.

Much easier for both of us (me explaining and you doing) for you to re-install NOOBS.

Iam still trying to get XBMC to work right ,like trying to get a library & get movies, TV shows in it. Trying to make it as easy as i can so wife can use it. But i guess i messed something up would like to get it working to were i can cut cable off

But i will post when i try reloading NOOBS later.

I have learn a lot on here from the other post looks like theres a lot more too.
Thanks for the help
