Initial RPi setup using no keyboard?

Tue Dec 31, 2013 11:04 pm

Hi all,

After my SD card becoming corrupt (probably most common pi issue), I have reinstalled a fresh version of Raspbian straight onto a Sandisk CL10 16GB card.

Unfortunately, I gave away my USB keyboard as the PC I use still has a serial connection and I stupidly thought I could continue VNCing into the RPi.

I have a serial -> USB converter, the keyboard lights flash when it's inserted, but then it does nothing. I have manually edited the config.txt file (copied over recovered one from old SD card) and the /etc/interfaces.txt file to set a static ethernet address.

My only problem is now how do I setup the raspi-config GUI txt screen that appears when the unit's turned on, and how to install a VNC program - ideally xtightvncviewer ? Anyone have any ideas which files to edit for these two things?

Any help would be appreciated!
