Samba transfers VERY SLOW (mapped network drive on Windows)

Tue Dec 31, 2013 12:12 am

I have samba set up to share my external hard drive to my Windows desktop and whilst it functions correctly it's extremely slow. I searched around online for a while and found that adding

Code: Select all

socket options = TCP_NODELAY IPTOS_LOWDELAY SO_RCVBUF=65536 SO_SNDBUF=65536
supposedly increased the speeds. It didn't. I'm at a bit of a loss for what to do, because remote P2P connections upload at quick speeds.

Perhaps this is a problem somewhere else? Although I can't imagine what.

Its never going to be fast, but the file system on the hard drive will make a difference. NTFS takes a bit of decoding for a processor challenged computer like the Pi. It would be faster with EXTx or FAT.
Don't judge Linux by the Pi.......
I must not tread on too many sacred cows......
