NOOBS :S which version shows red light

Hi so i formatted my 8gb sd card and zipped NOOBS (offline and network version) onto the sd card got error as says not enough memory for it, i then downloaded the NOOBS (lite version) booted up the pi and got a list of operating system to choose from i clicked raspbian (reccomended) it all loaded till the end then got nothing only red light showing on pi?? any help would be great am new to all this so may take me some time hopefully will get there in the end.. thanks :)

Start again. Use the SD Card Association's Formatter as per the NOOBS instructions. Unzip the NOOBS-lite files on to it. Connect ethernet cable between RPi and router. Power up the RPi. Select OS and install.
