problem with rebooting into gui

Mon Dec 30, 2013 5:02 pm

So, I seem to have an issue with the first reboot after raspi-config. I installed Noobs and then picked raspian as my os. then It proceeds to go to raspi-config and after i customize to us standards and pick boot to desktop then finish. It reboots to a blank screen with a flashing cursor. I have tried re formatting the sd card multiple times and following installation procedures and it still leads to the same problem. also I have a raspberry pi kit from adafruit so i would hope that the problem wouldn't be with a improper sd card or power issue. thanks for your time.

Is it a 4GB card? If so, the issue might be that there's not enough free space.

It is a 4gb card. I thought that would have enough space for raspian? If it doesn't, which size would you recommend?

it is enough for Raspbian, it's just not enough for NOOBS + raspbian. Try using a raw image without NOOBS.

Edit: Typing fail.

Not all SDCards are created equal. (With apologies to T. Jefferson.)

It's very interesting how unreliable flash memory is and why no two SDCards (even from the same manufacturer) report the same amount of available space.

Just installing the raw image seemed to fix the problem. Thanks a ton for you quick and informative responses!
