raspistill: command not found

Sat Dec 28, 2013 2:36 pm

I have just unboxed my new raspberry pi camera module that I received as a present.

I have installed it as per the instructions.

I have run sudo raspi-config and enabled the camera.

The problem I have is when I run this:

Code: Select all

raspistill -o image.jpg
I get an error message stating:

Code: Select all

-bash: raspistill: command not found
This suggests to me that raspistill is not installed.

How do I install this? Any other ideas what could be wrong?

Did you go through the raspi-config menu and select the camera add-on support option?

Yes, and I've done sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade.

The updates did not find anything to upgrade or install.

Strange ..., the 'sudo apt-get update' and 'sudo apt-get upgrade' should have installed it.
I am assuming you are running raspbian.
What is the output from 'uname -a' in a terminal? It currently should show kernel version 3.10.24+.
What you could try is to run 'sudo rpi-update' which updates to the latest kernel, modules and firmware utilities, including raspistill and raspivid.

If you run an other distribution I do not know how the camera utilities can be installed.

Good luck with the camera.

Try
sudo rpi-update
followed by a reboot
