My Raspbmc goes through all the setup, updates, then starts an endless loop of Relax, XBMC will restart shortly, but it doesn't… What's wrong??

Yup - I am getting this too. Was fine last weekend. Googled it and saw similar issues in the past but none of the solutions then work now,
Also did fresh reinstalls etc but no luck. Deffo stuck

I don't know what happened, maybe the SD card got corrupted (I'm not a techie), so I reflashed a new card with Raspbmc and started from scratch, restarted and Voila!, all is fine.

I have a new unit. It goes through the various stages, the latter stages being:
*Updating service management
*downloading new XBMC build
*Extracting XBMC
*Relax, XBMC will restart shortly
Press ESC key for a command line
However, like the others are reporting it never moves from this stage. I tried "recovery" but it goes through all the motions and right back here to the same spot. What do I need to do? Do I need to download a new image onto the same SD card?

I had the same problem. But I can't seem to get it to read a new image. What download did you use?

I used a new Kingston 8GB Class 10 SD and download from:

No muss, no fuss, started right up.
Hope this helps.

I had the exact same problem... It's in this post
http://www.raspberrypi.org/forum/viewto ... op#p473212 . It looks like the only solution is to format the NOOBs card and reinstall another image...
No one else has a better solution for this? In what format should I format the SD?

I have solved this issue following http://sørenj.dk/?p=506
Connect via ssh, stop xbmc service, rename directory ~pi/.xmbc/ and reboot

Hi
Just got my Raspberry Pi B+ in the mail today, I downloaded the RaspBMC An XBMC Media Centre thing and loaded it to the micro 8 gig SD card, hooked up the Pi to the TV and ran it let it do all the updating and rebooting etc. now I am at the Relax, XBMC will restart shortly loop thing.
I hit escape and it takes me to a login screen I log in then it takes me to a command prompt thing, I am command prompt stupid, I am black screen have to type in commands stupid if it does not have a GUI I will need detailed step by step instructions if you leave out a space or make one little typo in your instructions I will never get it to work.
Looks like this problem has been going on for a really long time what is the fix for this problem?
Suggestions?
I bough the Rasberry Pi to use as a media player I was under the impression its a proven design and the software is proven and has a GUI? IS their another software I should be using ?
Thanks in advance.

When and from where did you download the Raspbmc image?

Use openelec or xbian, they are faster and are easier to use. No command line if you don't want to.

That's also the case with Raspbmc.
In this case it only showed up because of user actions when the problem dialog showed. Effectively the user 'wanted to'...

First time was a week or so ago off the Raspberry site go here
http://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/ RaspBMC
An XBMC Media Centre download it followed the instructions using the installer thing in the tuorial when that failed on 3 different memory cards formatting and reloading each card 3 times (9 tries) I gave up and downloaded the Raspbian
Debian Wheezy and installed it then added the RaspBMC off the menu same results cycle of Relax, XBMC will restart shortly and it does it never stops restarting.
Formatted the card AGAIN and installed the Raspbian Debian Wheezy then picked OpenELEC An XBMC Media Centre it works life is good.
After searching the web found out the Relax, XBMC will restart shortly is a common problem thats been going on for like 9 months, once they resolved that problem please reply here I will try it again, since its a known problem I will not waste any more of my time trying.
Hope they resolve the problem.
ALL of my downloads and instructions to install came from the official site
http://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/
Thanks for the help.

What problem is that? I have used Raspbmc since the start (2 years ago?) and never had it myself.
BTW: I don't understand
and downloaded the Raspbian Debian Wheezy and installed it then added the RaspBMC off the menu same results cycle of Relax, XBMC will restart shortly and it does it never stops restarting.
How did you add Raspbmc to a Raspbian Wheezy install? Both are separate distros...
Just to go back to basics: is the power supply sufficient (is the red power led always on?). Any USB peripherals plugged in?
Gr.
Dirk.

FIX:
Connect to Shell via SSH or Local:
Login with your 'pi' user...
enter following commands:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo service stop kodi
echo 'SUBSYSTEM=="vchiq",GROUP="video",MODE="0660"' > /etc/udev/rules.d/10-vchiq-permissions.rules
sudo usermod -a -G video pi
sudo reboot
Now you Raspbmc should start normally.
