usb harddrive permissions

Hi,

I am trying to record to my external hard drive in TVHeadend and I get a permission denied message.

How do I set the permission on an external hard drive to read write for all?

Change the mount options to set uid guide and masks.
Or reformat your hard disk as ext4.
Note: Any requirement to use a crystal ball or mind reading will result in me ignoring your question.

So reformatting the drive to ext4 will mean I don't need to change anything else?

When you mount an ext4 drive Linux knows how to deal with the permissions stuff. It will just work, like your root filesystem.
