WiFi Issue

Hi there. I just got my Raspberry Pi today along with a WiFi adapter from Element 14. I am running Raspian and having trouble connecting to my WiFi network. The WiFi adapter is being detected, and is picking up surrounding wireless networks---Just not mine. For some reason my network doesn't show up with I click "Scan". I tried entering it manually and it just says "Scanning" forever. Any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Change your WiFi so that you broadcast your SSID.

It already is set to broadcast. All other devices in my house pick it up.

How far are you from the access point?
How many walls?
What channel is it broadcasting on?
If 12 or 13 change it to a channel in the range 1 to 11.

I'm right next to it. I'm picking up people's internet who live 100 meters away, just not my own. Channel is set to automatic. All my other devices and friend's devices can see and access my internet just not the Pi. Really weird.

Set the channel explicitly to one in the range of 1 to 11.
Channel 12 and 13 are Europe ONLY and can't be seen by some North American devices (like my HP WiFi Printer).
