The drivers I compile are for raspbian. Which OS are you using? Which driver did you download as I would not expect that error to occur if you downloaded the right version of the driver? I expect you have downloaded the wrong driver.

There is a driver that is now included in the raspbian image for wifi using the 8188eu chip. Name is r8188eu. You just need to ensure the firmware is loaded using

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install firmware-realtek
.

If you are using an up to date version of raspbian take a look here as well viewtopic.php?p=838556#p838556

I upgraded from Wheezy to Jessie and I am not able to configure my wlan0 interface anymore.
I've tried to download the TP-LINK TL-WN725N V2 drivers for my kernel version but I can't establish connection (timeouts):

Is the download site not available anymore or is just a temporary problem with the server? Are there available to download from elsewhere?

Hello,
I'm using Raspbian Jessie with Linux version 4.1.15-v7+ #830 (Pi 2), my TL-WN725N has USB ID 0bda:8179, can I use
4.1.14-v7+ #830 - 8188eu-v7-20151215.tar.gz driver or I have to wait a newer build?
I tried to install it with install.sh script but I have not working wifi connection... Tried with DCHP and static (preferred) configuration. :oops:

EDIT: changed /etc/network/interfaces and /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf and now it seems to work!!! :D

There was an error in the list of files and I have now corrected it. Yes you can use 8188eu-v7-20151215.tar.gz for 4.1.15-v7+ #830 kernels. The ./install.sh command just installs the driver, it does not configure the wifi which you will have to do.

With Jessie DO NOT edit file /etc/network/interfaces. If you want a static IP edit file /etc/dhcpcd.conf and command man dhcpcd.conf will show the details of what you need to do.

To configure your wifi edit file /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf. I use the following for WPA/WPA2

Code: Select all

ctrl_interface=DIR=/var/run/wpa_supplicant GROUP=netdev
update_config=1

network={
        ssid="network-name"
        psk="network-password"
}

From the output of uname -a looks like you are using Berryboot. I don't have the drivers for Berryboot.

Hi MrEngman,

Thanks for build the drivers! I have tried 725v2 on RPi and RPi 2. And I use piracast with corresponding drivers(8188eu-20141107.tar.gz and 8188eu-v7-20151113.tar.gz).
However it works well on RPi, but not on RPi 2. The device cannot be searched on RPi 2. Is there differences between the drivers?

BTW, I also tried P2P_UI, and it can search other device, but cannot be searched by other device.

Thanks a lot,
Danny

I assume you mean by "The device cannot be searched on RPi 2" when you install the driver on the RPi 2 the wifi adapter does nor show when you use command lsusb. Is that right?

How did you install the driver on the RPi 2 B. You need to install using commands

Code: Select all

wget https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/80256631/8188eu-v7-20151113.tar.gz
tar xzf 8188eu-v7-20151113.tar.gz
./install.sh
You need to install the driver using command ./install.sh.

There is a 8188eu driver that was included in the RPi 2 B kernel but it did not include the firmware and so the driver turns off the wifi so you do not see it with lsusb. Installing my driver using command ./install.sh disables the driver included in the kernel and then you will see it with lsusb after a reboot.

If you want to use the built in driver you will need to install the firmware and delete my driver. To install the firmware for the built in driver try commands sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install firmware-realtek
You can then check the firmware is installed with command

Code: Select all

ls /lib/firmware/rtlwifi/rtl8188eufw.bin
To delete my driver use commands

Code: Select all

sudo rm /etc/modprobe.d/8188eu.conf
sudo rm /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/8188eu.ko
sudo depmod $(uname -r)
Reboot and you should see the wifi with comand lsusb.

Hi MrEngman,

Thanks for your reply, sorry for my bad description. "The device cannot be searched on RPi 2" means not 725v2 cannot be found on RPi2, the driver mod installed and wlan0 interface works fine.

I should say the 725v2 cannot be found when I run Piracast and P2P cannot searched this 725v2. (It works with RPi, but RPi2 not)

Thanks,
Danny

Why it is working with static IPs by editing /etc/network/interfaces and you are using Jessie I don't know. There are so many who have tried setting the static IP by editing that file and now have problems.

In the latest updates there is information in the /etc/network/interfaces file which says do not edit the file to get a static IP. It says edit file /etc/dhcpcd.conf, and look at the info in the file for details and also use command man dhcpcd.conf for more help.

You should set file /etc/network/interfaces back to it's original state and then edit /etc/dhcpcd.conf for your static IPs.

On my Pi with Jessie the original /etc/network/interfaces is

Code: Select all

# interfaces(5) file used by ifup(8) and ifdown(8)

# Please note that this file is written to be used with dhcpcd
# For static IP, consult /etc/dhcpcd.conf and 'man dhcpcd.conf'

# Include files from /etc/network/interfaces.d:
source-directory /etc/network/interfaces.d

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

iface eth0 inet manual

allow-hotplug wlan0
iface wlan0 inet manual
    wpa-conf /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf

allow-hotplug wlan1
iface wlan1 inet manual
    wpa-conf /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf
I don't use static IPs as I find once an IP is assigned using dhcp it keeps the address even after rebooting. I have set my network server/router to set the dhcp lease time to infinite.

What driver did you download?

I tried my 4.1.16-v7+ #832 driver with 4.1.16-v7+ #833 and it works OK.

The drivers I compile are working. For 4.1.16-v7+ #833 you can try this

Code: Select all

wget https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/80256631/8188eu-4.1.16-v7-833.tar.gz
tar xzf 8188eu-4.1.16-v7-833.tar.gz
./install.sh
Reboot after installing.

Dear MrEngMan,

I found WiFi p2p seems only work at RTL v4.1.8_9499 driver. So I want to build driver myself for test.

My image is 3.12.22+, but when I checkout branch 3.12.y, it is 3.12.36+... so I got insmod 8188eu.ko failed due to Invalid module format. How can I switch the kernel to 3.12.22? :cry:

I found the commit id at https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux/co ... .y?page=58, but I cannot checkout it..
Thanks,
Danny
