Hello,

I have a AC600 wifi dongle from Easynic (amazon link).
do I need these drivers to use it in a RPi 3 ? what is the file to download ?

You can install a driver using the commands

./install.sh
There is also a script that will automatically install the driver. You can download and install the script using commands

tar xzf install-wifi.tar.gz
Run command ./install-wifi -h to see information on using the script.

After installing the mt7610 driver you will then have two wifi modules enabled, the AC600 and the Broadcom wifi built into the Pi 3B. You can disable the Broadcom wifi by make the file /etc/modprobe.d/brcmfmac.conf and adding the line blacklist brcmfmac. This will stop the Broadcom driver loading and disable the Broadcom wifi.

Hi

I've followed your updated instructions - my kernel version is 4.4.38+ #938
I downloaded the appropriate gz file, installed it. The kernel module installs fine.
However my Pi still says 'No wireless interfaces found'
lsusb shows the wifi dongle with a code 0bda:8179
ifconfig shows a wlan2 connection up.
Hovering over the network widget shows: "wlan2: not associated"
Any help much appreciated.

Does the file /etc/network/interfaces have an entry for wlan2? If not you will need to edit file /etc/network/interfaces and add another wifi entry for wlan2.

Like this, which also has a couple of additional entries wlan3 and ra0, which is used on one of my Pi's that is running Raspbian Jessie and I use for checking out wifi drivers.

Good evening MrEngan,

I am looking for a driver for the 7610u chipset for kernel version 4.4.22-3. As far as I can tell, this doesn't exist in your dropbox, so I can only assume that the kernel is too recent for it to have been compiled so far. Or perhaps it is too obscure, i wouldn't be surprised if it was proprietary. If it would be possible to get hold of a driver for this kernel version then that would be great, or at least one that is compatible. I can't change my kernel as it has some modifications that allow a realtime drone flight controller to run properly. My /lib/modules/ folder contains:
4.4.22+ and 3.3.20-v7+
and uname -a gives:
Linux erle-brain-2 4.4.22+ #3 PREEMPT Wed Oct 12 16:55:25 CEST 2016 armv6l GNU/Linux

Unfortunately the drivers I compile are for Raspbian and I expect you are using some other operating system or have compiled your own version. What operating system are you using? If you have modified the kernel yourself you would probably need to compile your own driver.

I believe I am running a version of Raspbian. I only know that the kernel has been modified, and not by me. I am happy to try to compile the driver myself, but to be honest I wouldn't know where to start. I am not completely new to the idea so I should be able to make do with some rough instructions. I don't think have access to the kernel source unless it's included in a normal install.

If it's based on Raspbian it may be relatively easy to compile a suitable driver. Is an image available somewhere on the internet so I can download it and take a look at it.

I feel like I am very close to having this working reliably. I have searched extensively on the forum and elsewhere but have found no useful links to a solution for this problem. What am I missing? Would I be more successful with an different 802.11ac WiFi adapter?

It would help if you tell us what are you doing when you get those errors.

What driver are you trying to install, mt7610 I guess?

If you are using my install-wifi script there have been changes to the kernel format and also to the mt7610 driver which has required a change. There is a new script which can be downloaded and installed using commands

chmod +x /usr/bin/install-wifi
You will need to run the new script using sudo - e.g. sudo install-wifi ....

I updated Raspian, downloaded and installed the new, latest install-wifi tool, checked that a driver was available for the latest kernel, updated the kernel and driver according to the built in help, and...

I am still getting the same kernel error and attendant behavior as shown in my post above.

Is there anything I can do to fix this? Should I obtain something other than the DWA-171?

I've been using this driver for a long time now and have never seen anything like this before or on any other Pi's I run. Searching the internet would appear to indicate it is a shortage of virtual memory e.g. viewtopic.php?p=136644#p136644 during heavy usage. It's a really old post but could provide a clue to a solution, just need to sort out how to do this with the current kernel version to provide a similar solution.

Maybe posting a new thread referencing the error you're getting "Unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address" may get you a better response.

I am very close to getting this working, but there are still issues.

I have a TP-Link T1U AC450 USB adapter, so from what I've read on here I should be installing

I use a TP-Link Archer T2U wifi and I have no problem connecting to my network using wpa_supplicant.conf using the format

however I find using the mt7610 drive is not very reliable. Although the wifi stays connected data transfer is not very reliable and can be slow even when connected to a 5GHz AP with 434Mb/s bitrate.

Sounds like your wpa_supplicant.conf file has a problem. Make sure you do not have any spaces around the "=" signs for a start and the network name and password are OK. Also set "country=" to the country where you are.

Your lsmod shows the mt7610 driver and also the 8192cu wifi driver but lsusb only shows the mt7610 wifi module. Have you set up your Pi to force the 8192cu driver to be loaded or did you have an 8192cu wifi module installed and then unplugged it?

I've been using this driver for a long time now and have never seen anything like this before or on any other Pi's I run. Searching the internet would appear to indicate it is a shortage of virtual memory e.g. viewtopic.php?p=136644#p136644 during heavy usage. It's a really old post but could provide a clue to a solution, just need to sort out how to do this with the current kernel version to provide a similar solution.

Maybe posting a new thread referencing the error you're getting "Unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address" may get you a better response.

Actually I had posted a separate threat first with almost that exact title, however nobody responded to it for several days. Hence, in some desperation, I posted in this thread which seemed to be active and had your attention.

I followed up on the previous thread you provided, but increasing the vm.min_free_kbytes did not improve the situation.

At this point it would seem wisest to try another 802.11ac adapter, perhaps one that uses a different driver.

All: I would appreciate one or two recommendations in that area, please.

I have another 300Mbps 802.11n dongle which I've been using for quite a while. I don't recall ever modifying the pi in regards to WiFi drivers. This one worked straight away. Although I might have wait for LAN before boot enabled? This adapter was also plugged in when I was trying to connect the other 5GHz dongle. I have tried it without the other dongle plugged in.

I just tried forcing the iwconfig connection twice in a row, and I finally have an IP! Any idea why it couldn't do this straight away? Before, from the router page, it appeared that the pi was not sending any packets, but as soon as I ran the command twice they started appearing.

Have just been testing it under ssh and seemed stable until I ran a wifi scan, then it immediately dropped out and never came back. Is this just a problem with the driver being unstable?

Is there a new version for kernel 4.4.34-v7+ out there? I've tried to install 8188eu-4.4.8-v7-881 but it does not work. Now the 725 is not recognized anymore as an interface (ifconfig), only via lsusb.

Why don't you download the install-wifi script which will automatically find and install the driver for you. Look at the first post in this thread viewtopic.php?p=462982#p462982 and read the MAJOR UPDATE:- section. Just before the end of that section it show how to download and install the script.

Hi,
I am struggling to get a similar USB wifi adapter working. I have already updated the driver (matching with my Raspbian version), but it does not appear to be working. I see the wlan0, but I am unable to scan any access points and I am obviously unable to connect to any. Any help would be highly appreciated. Thank you.

From the info you posted it appears you are using a Pi Zero with a hub connected to it. Does the hub have it's own power supply? If not this could be part of the problem.

How do you scan for wifi APs. I use command sudo iwconfig wlan0 scan. If you scan with this command what result do you get.

In dmesg there is the line "[ 31.778247] cfg80211: Regulatory domain changed to country: SA" which may indicate you need to change you wifi setup.

I set up my wifi by editing file /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf like this

Change country=GB to set the country where you are and ssid and psk using the settings for your network.

Hello everyone,

I seem to be at an impasse. I'm trying my best to understand what I'm supposed to be doing to get these T1U drivers working but unfortunately I can't seem to make any of the scripts work and receive either child errors or path errors. I'm running 4.4.9 on build 884

The last command I stumbled upon was

wget https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/802 ... 884.tar.gz
tar xzf 8188eu-4.4.9-884.tar.gz

sudo install -p -m 644 8188eu.ko /lib/modules/4.4.9+/kernel/drivers/net/wireless
sudo insmod /lib/modules/4.4.9+/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/8188eu.ko
sudo depmod -a
sudo reboot

Applying random commands is just going to mess things up. I would suggest you try and install the right driver - mt7610 - for the T1U then you might get it working. Searching the forum for "T1U" might help.
