Where to get linux-image-3.1.9+ debian package?

Postby mchr3k » Sat May 19, 2012 1:55 pm

I have been trying to build a driver for my WG111T USB wifi stick and have hit a stumbling block as I need to have a linux-image-3.1.9+ package.

I hit a previous issue where I needed a linux-headers-3.1.9+ package which I resolved with the following commands:

sudo apt-get install git
git clone –depth 1 https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux.git
sudo mv linux /lib/modules/3.1.9+/build
cd /lib/modules/3.1.9+/build
make mrproper
gzip -dc /proc/config.gz > .config
make modules_prepare

I got these commands from this thread: http://www.raspberrypi.org/forum/troubl ... d-hardware

Can anyone tell me the correct commands to use to build a kernel-image package?

These posts document my progress so far:

Tested yesterday night, compilation started about 22:00, all done at 03:20:45 :)

Code: Select all

pi@raspberrypi:~/raspberrypi/linux$ uname -a
Linux raspberrypi 3.1.9+ #1 Sat May 19 03:20:45 CEST 2012 armv6l GNU/Linux

It looks like I need to run the following commands:

sudo apt-get install git
git clone –depth 1 https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux.git
sudo mv linux /lib/modules/3.1.9+/build
cd /lib/modules/3.1.9+/build
make mrproper
gzip -dc /proc/config.gz > .config
make

Will this make/install a kernel-image package or will I have to do something extra after running make?

Is there another, quicker target which I could run similar to modules_prepare or do I really need to run the full make?

I tried running "make" to build the kernel and after 5 hours it all succeeded. However, when I tried again to build my driver it failed with the same error as before as dpkg is still unable to find the linux-image-3.1.9+ package.

What do I need to do after building the kernel to create/install a linux-image-3.1.9+ package?
