HP LaserJet p1102 printer not recognized

Sun Nov 10, 2013 3:01 pm

Hello, I have an urgent problem with a HP LaserJet P1102

I'm using 2013-05-25-wheezy-raspbian

I disabled the printer windows smart-install feature
I installed cups and foo2zjs driver ( http://foo2zjs.rkkda.com/ )
(i downloaded and compiled the driver manually, without apt-get)

Cups doesn't see it, and lsusb either.

lsusb output:

Code: Select all

If it is not recognised by lsusb then no driver will make it work, you may need it plugged into a USB Powered Hub ?

With HP Printers and Raspbian Wheezzy all you need is to install the hplip-gui package, then plug in the printer and run the software

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install hplip-gui

.....this will download all the dependencies required

According to http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/index.html your printer is supported !

You will obviously need to uninstall the drivers you have manually installed..

For the truth, i remember i managed to have it works succesfully (without needing an usb powered hub), but i forgot how i did.
I will try with hplip, but from what i know, hplip drivers for this printer are yes supported, but not for arm ( http://linux.subogero.com/1312/hp-laser ... 02-on-rpi/ )

hp-lip doesn't work. hp-setup doesn't detect the printer

Is it recognized by lsusb now ? Last time the Printer was not recognized by Debian Wheezy and if it is not recognized no driver will find it !

If you find on the HPlip page that the printer is supported, you must check whether a proprietary plugin is required.
The HPlip framewok installs the plugin automatically.

The catch is this: HP compiles these plugins only for the x86 platform. So no luck on theRaspberry Pi, which is ARM.

no it isn't
i don't know what to do.. i remember i got it to work months agoo, but i forgot how i did :(

i remember the printer wasn't recognized by lsusb, then i installed "something" (including that foozjs driver) and it worked.

Disagree: I have a supported Printer and HPLIP installs the printer on Lubuntu x86-32 & x86-64 as well as Raspbian Wheezy with no extra plug-ins etc needed or required.

The problem the OP has is in the output of LSUSB did not show the printer, and still he has not confirmed whether or not it is now recognized by in the lsusb output.

So if Linux does not recognize a device is plugged in, a driver at this stage is actually immaterial and guesswork !!

seems like it works, using a powered hub. even if i'm sure it wasn't needed before
(and using foo2zjs driver. hplip doesn't work)

Hello all,
I’ve been trying to get hp LaserJet P1102 printer working with raspberry Pi, tried all the ways found on internet but no Luck.
I got CUPS successfully installed on Pi; its web interface detects the printer and adds the printer as default. I am able to access the printer through command line using command lpstat –q, lpq, lpstat –d etc. I tried installing the driver recommended here http://linux.subogero.com/1312/hp-laser ... 02-on-rpi/ used USB powered hub too but nothing worked.
I have tried commands given here http://foo2zjs.rkkda.com/forum/read.php?68,3823,3823 all response seems ok. I also resumed printer using the command sudo cupsenable <printer_name>.
Everything seems ok except the printing activity. Please suggest me what might be going wrong, I am using Raspberry Pi Model B+ with Raspbian.
I need the printer working with Raspberry Pi, please suggest that could work for me.
thanks all.

sudo apt-get install hplip

as for me i didn't need hplips (they don't provide drivers for this printer under linux). that's what i did (if i remember well):

Code: Select all

apt-get install cups
wget -O foo2zjs.tar.gz http://foo2zjs.rkkda.com/foo2zjs.tar.gz
tar zxf foo2zjs.tar.gz
cd foo2zjs
make
make install
make cups
adduser pi lpadmin
http://localhost:631

add printer choosing foo2zjs driver

if it doesn't work, try using a usb hub (i discovered that even a non-powered one works, probably because usb hubs amplify signals)

good luck, i got mad trying to make it work
p.s.
sorry for my bad english

Dear IlTizio and fruitoftheloom ,
Thanks a billion for your suggestion, today i finally got P1102 working with Model B+
First print was just a surprise ;)
I must share what i did.
Executed following commands as suggested

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install hplip
apt-get install cups
wget -O foo2zjs.tar.gz http://foo2zjs.rkkda.com/foo2zjs.tar.gz
tar zxf foo2zjs.tar.gz
cd foo2zjs
make
make install
make cups
adduser pi lpadmin
added printer using HPLJ P1102 appearing with HPLIP
add printer choosing foo2zjs driver
i dint find foo2zjs with HPLJ P1102 rather found with HPLJ 1020 just added this and continued with default page setup and it worked cool :)
Still i am confused why foo2zjs isn't appearing with HP LJ P1102.

Thanks guys for great help, thanks alot.
Good luck.

I followed the instructions of the above messg. It did not work. A woorkaround for me was to use cups interface and choose the relevant ppd file. The system gives an error but the printer works. thanx for the info guys.
