Network is not reachable

Sun Oct 13, 2013 8:54 pm

Hi,
When I try

Code: Select all

ping www.google.com
I get

Code: Select all

Network is not reachable
I have looked in /etc/udev/rules.d/ where I would like to delete 70-persistent-net.rules. But there are only two files there
40-scratch.rules
90-input.rules
I am using Raspian Wheezy, R-pi model B and running headless using VNC and Wi-Pi dongle.
Everything was working fine until I set up the Wi-Pi.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks,
Shane

Can you ping anything else? Example 8.8.8.8? What ifconfig says? Just wondering do you have nic configured ok?

Are you using a wired connection (eth0) or a USB WiFi dongle (wlan0)?

If using a WiFi dongle try pulling it out of the USB socket and re-inserting it (my Edimax dongle winks a blue LED when it's working). Have you configured your WiFi SSID and password?

If using a wired connection do you get the green LEDs glowing on your RPi and router/switch?

What does an `ifconfig -a` command show?
What does a `ip route` command show?
Try renewing your dhcp lease with `dhclient -d eth0` or `dhclient -d wlan0`
Try restarting the network with `ifdown eth0 && ifup eth0` or `ifdown wlan0 && ifup wlan0`

Hi,
I don't know why but I turned on my pi today and pinged 8.8.8.8 and it is working fine. Midori is also working.
Perhaps when I setup my Wi-Pi dongle yesterday I should have rebooted the pi after.
Well thank you all for your help anyway, very much appreciated.

Does it also ping with names like google.com? If it pings 8.8.8.8 but not example google.com then you should check your DNS settings but if everything is working change anything :-)

Hi,
Yes it does ping with http://www.google.com and I checked a few others. No problems.
Also these work

Code: Select all

$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get upgrade
Which is really what I was after.
What is 8.8.8.8? When I put it in my browser I get a red rectangle.
Thanks,
Shane
