[SOLVED] MPEG2 & VC1 licenses not working!

Sun Oct 13, 2013 9:16 am

Hello!

I recently bought my two codec license keys, but I simply can't get them to work.

First off, I entered them manually in the config.txt file. It didn't work.
Then I looked up some guides, realising I could just enter it in the System Configurations menu of Raspbmc. It didn't work.
Then I thought I had to restore the config.txt file in order to make the "codec menu activation" work. It didn't help.

I've tried several other of such combinations, such as with the full code, only with the actual 10-digit-key and such.

Each time I've checked the status of the codecs by playing the files I bought the codecs for (Still only audio),
and using the command lines given in the Rapsberry Pi email. They keep being disabled.

Is there anyone who has any ideas to a solution? If possible, I would like not to make a whole new install :))

Thanks for reading :)

I've got the exact same problem and can't get it to work.

Because I have OpenElec, I have entered them directly into the system.txt file on the spot where it reads:
# decode_MPG2=0x00000000
# decode_WVC1=0x00000000

Both command line tests show, the licenses are not active:
vcgencmd codec_enabled MPG2
MPEG2=disabled
vcgencmd codec_enabled WVC1
WVC1=disabled

Which is confirmed by a test with a MPEG2 video.
Do I really have faulty licenses or what is happening here?
Serial number: 00000000cde0b6d7
decode_MPG2=0x665aa1f5
decode_WVC1=0x58d4e423

Help is appreciated. Thanks, Martin

Do you really have # symbols at the start of the lines? If so that explains your problem as # symbols at the start of a lie mean it is treated as a comment.

Did you remove # from the lines?? if not then they get ignored.

It was indeed that easy. I was very confused by the fact that 95% of the system.txt lines started with #, even the one for licenses and CPU speed. Now I get the picture.
MPEG2 and WVC1 are working !

Might be best asking here:
http://forum.stmlabs.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=7

as raspbmc does things rather differently.

Hi, I have Openelec, want to insert the licence keys........ where on the SD card do I need to look, and what folder/file do I need to put it in? The solution will be easy, but the problem has cost me many hours of my time, and I just can't figure out where to put the code.

P.S. I am a NOOB, I understand nothing, can only follow precise instructions, if any information is not spelt out to me I will be lost.

Hi!
I have the same issue .
the first issue I found is the following showing difference from what I have seen on others post: "device _tree"

OpenELEC:~ # vcgencmd get_config str
device_tree=-
my config file is :
decode_MPG2=0x256aba58

My serial number is given at the end of :

OpenELEC:~ # cat /proc/cpuinfo
processor : 0
model name : ARMv6-compatible processor rev 7 (v6l)
Features : half thumb fastmult vfp edsp java tls
CPU implementer : 0x41
CPU architecture: 7
CPU variant : 0x0
CPU part : 0xb76
CPU revision : 7

Hardware : BCM2708
Revision : 0010
Serial : 00000000c3aad8de

When i try to see if mpeg2 is working :

OpenELEC:~ # vcgencmd codec_enabled MPG2
MPG2=disabled

Why? I bought only the MPG2 , should I by also the codec_ WVC1 ? Is somebody have an idea?

Many thanks for helping

Your config file isn't set correctly. Are you using NOOBS?

Note with NOOBS there is a config.txt for NOOBS (the one you see from windows) and a config.txt for each installed OS (like OpenELEC).
You've got to change the latter, so don't edit the file in windows. NOOBS has a config.txt editor for installed OS's.
